Well i don't know in your case, but one time my friend forgot his passphrase and he request for temporary passphrase just like you did. Then after a few days ( i think it's a couple days), he recieved a call by someone from US. He confused, because he didn't know who is it, but he still pick up the phone anyway. then he told me that the call was from e-gold and confirmed to him about his temporary passphrase. i'm quite confused too because, he is indonesian and makes that kind of call is not cheap.
Well maybe my story can give you something

many complained that e-gold's support was not that good.
but from my experiences, its ok, and e-gold has many staff there in supporting you.
e-gold can ONLY send surface mail to the address you registered, or call you to the number you registered in your profile.
there is NOT any other way.
I have called them several times, asking them to call me back and always solved the problems in seconds. Or just like your friend's case, wait for e-gold call you at some time.
as for the fee, many ip based phone systems have higher fee in the domestic us then idd call.

Did you list your real telephone number in your e-gold profile? If not, then its useless.
If you list your real number on file, then you could find e-gold phone number on the e-gold site, and call them in biz hours (would be 9:00 pm in your local time).
If your info is real, I am sure you ll get your account back.

that's why you have to put right information when you sign up to egold. if you put fake information they will send it to who? I have lost my passphrase in egold many years ago and they send it to via mail to my postal code. so I think you must put wrong information on your egold account.
