At what age did you move your child into a big bed from a crib?

My beautiful little girl just turned 2. For her birthday, we bought bunk beds for my kids room. She shares a bedroom with her 6 year old brother. A friend of mine yelled at me for putting her in a "big" bed. I think my friend is crazy. Emma has loves the bed and stays in bed most of the night. She only gets up once in a while and comes to my room. I hug her and we walk back to her room togther and she gets into her bed and goes right back to sleep. How old was your child when they had their first "big" bed??

Every family is different, and what works for one family won't work for another.:) Your daughter seems fine with her "big girl bed" SO YEAH!!! thats terrific. The best parenting advice I ever got was "Take the advice that makes sense to you, and ignore anything that seems silly."

I wouldn't worry about what your friend thinks. Shes your daughter and you have the right to do what you think is best. I think two is a perfect age for a child to have their own "Big" bed. As you say she likes it. You are doing the right thing so don't worry.

No offence but I don't believe in putting boys and girls in the same room. I did give my daughter a race car bed when she was about two. She kept climbing out of the cribe so I thought it was time to get rid of the crib. Once she got the bed she stopped wetting pants and she stopped walking around the house. She was quite good with it. I think it is up to the child when you take them out of their cribs.

My son is 6 and my daughter is 2. They are brother and sister. We only have 2 bedrooms. Where do you think I should put one of them? What is wrong with small children sharing a room?

We got my son a toddler bed at Christmas time and he was 21 months, we put up the baby gate in his doorway so if he doesn't want to go to bed right away he can still play in his room. It has worked out great, in the mornings when I get up I take down the gate and he can get up whenever he is ready, he sleeps all night so that is great. Your daughter sounds like she is doing great with her bed too, tell your friend it is working out great for you and your family!!

Personally i think that parents can make their own descisions and my first child was 2 when he started sleeping Ok in a "big bed" but my daughter didnt move out of the crib until 4. It all depends whether or not your child may be able to sleep well in a "big bed."

my oldest son was 2 1/2 and I slept on the top bunk while he slept in the bottom as Shrek didn't live with us back then and I didn't have a bedroom as the extension wasn't finished. When he was about 5 he moved up to the top bed because he wanted too and chopped and changed until my younger son went in with him a few weeks ago. Roo is 3 and was used to sleeping in our bed so it took a while to make him sleep in his cot full nights, about 6 months and then I moved him out as soon as I could. I wake up in a morning sometimes and there he is, back in the middle, but Bong used to do that until he was 4, I don't really mind, I love cuddling them when they're asleep.

If it works for your daughter, then it's fine. If she moves around a lot while she is sleeping, you might want to get a guard rail that will prevent her from falling out. My youngest is almost 3 and still sleeps in the crib, with the side down so she can climb in and out on her own. It's still working, so I am not going to change anything now, but she will probably go into a child's bed within the next several months. If you find something that works well for your child and your family, then don't worry about what others say. You know what is best for your children.

Every kid is different. I believe it's suggested that once they start climbing out of the crib on their own, to move them, so they don't get hurt. I remember my oldest 2 girls, it had to be around 1 1/2 - 2 years old. Obviously they had to be able to walk, and I remember them climbing out of the crib lol. My youngest one is 14 months and she's starting to climb on everything now. Just waiting for that morning where she climbs out.....

We moved my son into a toddler bed when he was just over two years old. He loved it from the moment we set it up. We put a mattress beside it for the first couple weeks, because he fell out of it a couple times. We moved him into a twin sized bed when he was about 2 1/2. That said, I've heard that the "ideal age" is 18 months. I was told that at that age they'll transition well, but I don't know first-hand because I've never tried it.

I put my daughter in her own bed when she was just older than 2. She was climbing out of her cot so it was no longer safe for her to be in there. I would have put her in there a few months earlier but because we didn't have space for her bed at that time she had to stay in the cot and just have it pushed next to my bed so that if she climbed out she wouldn't fall on the floor.

All of my three children were about 2 when they went into a big bed. They were all very restless sleepers and used to kick the edge ogf the cot and wake themselves up. My daughter actually had a double bed as her first bed and they slept much more soundly after that. Do what you feel is right. You are the parent!

I think 2 is the perfect age to be moved into a bed. Both of my children were in a bed soon after their 2nd birthday.

My 2 1/2 is quite tall for her age so the toddler bed looks small and she doesn't have any room to move around. We just got her a full bed in her room so she can sleep there. I wanted a queen size but my husband thought I was crazy...too big for such a little girl. But I just want to make sure she got plenty of room to move around. I hope this will work out fast and I will not be going back and forth to her room coz for almost a month now, she is sleeping in our bed while waiting for her own bed. I still am hesitant to let her go to her own bed coz if she sleep beside me, I got a goodnight sleep. But if she is in her room, even asleep, my ears is listening to the monitor if she makes any sound.

My nephew was 4 when he started sleeping alone in his room. He likes it but sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night and joins mummy in her bed :)

My little monkey was just over a year. He was standing up on the side rail and jumping off. 2 years old is fine and it sounds lie she is ready for it. Don't worry about your friend.
