Accidental Best Response...

Have you ever accidently marked someone for best response when you know they didn't deserve it? I was trying to rate a post as positive, and I accidently pressed the mark best response. I pressed the stop button at the top of my screen, but it had already processed. When you want your server to be down on mylot lol it's somehow unexpectedly extremely fast! I think mylot should allow us to change our best responses, because sometimes people choose the best response much too quickly before anyone gets a chance to respond. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Have you ever accidently marked someone a best response knowing they didn't deserve it? And do you think they should allow us to change our best responses after we have placed them?

I've never done that but I hardly ever rate people as much as I should. You're right about how we should edit our best responses because we never know if someone else will give a better response. I also feel that once we mark a best response, it should close down that thread.

Yes, exactly. You took the words out of my mouth. I think people should stop responding after someone has marked best response. Unless, it's accidental like mine lol.

I haven't hit the wrong button; however, there have been better responses after I selected a response. There is no question about how bad I feel when a long well thought out response is posted and I can't change my choice. I'm sorry to see that mylot can't change the best response.

So far, I have been lucky, & have not made that mistake. However, there are those times that after selecting a best response, someone else comes along & adds a better response than what was rightfully at the time, the best response. One idea is try sending a message to MyLot support & see if they can undo the selection, & then if they can, you can select the correct best response afterwards. That is, if they can & are willing to undo the best response selection.

That happens to me alot. I wait and wait and finally choose best response. Not 5 minutes later someone comes by and leaves a better one after no activity for a week...lol They get us everytime...hehe But you can only wait so long before you forget about it.

I haven't accidentally marked a best response yet, but I can see myself doing it with the way that my fingers get trigger happy on the mouse every so often, lol! I have definitely slipped just far enough to mark someone with a minus instead of a plus once, though, and I still feel badly about that! I wish that the plus and minus were a teeny bit further apart, lol! Anyway, I agree that it would be nice if we could change our best response choice - or at least, at the very least, it would be nice if we had to press to confirm that we really did want to pick that person's answer, just in case something happens like it did with you when you were trying to give them a rating and hit the wrong thing.

I accidently did that once too. I was trying to press + and I accidently marked them negative -. I still think about that person as well. I hope their ratings didn't go down because of me. But it would be nice to at least have a confirm option, because the person that I marked best response for didn't even know what my discussion was about.

I have done this before also...and it frustrates me, I did talk to the mylot admin. about it, and they said that they had never had this problem before, and so they do not have a way to remove/reverse it, and that they will work on it. I hope so, because I picked a person (accidentally) who did not write anything pertaining to the discussion, and I actually felt bad, because there were so many responses that could have been best response, except that one. I hope that it does not happen to me again. It is very upsetting.

Yep. The first one I ever gave went to the wrong person by accident. The guy gave a two word response and he got a best response from me for it. Nothing I could do about it afterwards but it certainly taught me to be more careful.

I have marked someone best response and then a few dys later someone else said something that I thought was the new best response, but it wouldn't let me change it. I try to go back and select one, but I hate to too soon since I can't change it. I also don't like that I can't go back and edit my topics or responses. Sometimes it's just a typo, but it bugs me that I can't change it. :(

I haven't done this but one time I did accidentally rate someone's discussion as negative. I felt so bad about it I went through all their posts and marked them all with positive ratings. I think it would be great if we could edit our ratings as well as the best responses.

hey ofcourse, there has to be facility to correct best reponses even after we mark them so, well well but accidently if you are marking someones response best, then unknowingly that person also must be giving you blessing and may feel good about it, isnt that?....i mean unknowningly you are being good to some one, as you do this accidently, lets have that accident again with me too ;)...lol, , best luck, happy earning!!!

So far, I haven't hit the wrong button. I have wondered if that ever happens to anyone. I don't know about the suggestion someone else made about marking best response closing off a discussion. Some people pick best response real quick. There are many people who really just want to discuss things and are not worried about getting best response. Also, if it's a subject that people are still wanting to discuss, would people be yelling about a new discussion being started on the same thing?

That happened to me once. I was new then and the response was not deserving at all. It came from a user who always post 2 or 3 worded responses and doesn't seem to understand what the postings are all about aside from just reading the headlines. What worried me was there are other responses that are lengthy and well thought of. I'm sure those who posted serious responses were wondering why in the world did I choose that response to be the best.

No I haven't done it yet....lol But I did rate someone a - when I meant to rate + . I didn't know what to do and then I noticed that the discussion was 3 months old and the person only had 51 points and I checked and they hadn't logged in for 2 months. So I felt ok with it. Other wise I guess I would contact mylot and let them know jsut to be honest. I couldn't take it back...lol

It is sort of frustrating! I've never accidentally given a best response to someone. I usually wait for a couple days of no activity before doing the best response, but on more then one occasion, a really good reply comes in after I've already awarded the best reply, and I'm left look foolish for giving the best reply to an average answer simply because it was that best one at the time... lol...

I have not. But I like when I come across a discussion that actually reminds me to rate things because I get preoccupied with writing and always forget. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, I think mylot should provide this function, because we everyone could know whether the next response was a better one or not. But if we can change the mark of the best response, it is different. In a word: there was no the best, only the better!
