What does Valentines Day mean to you? Is it really the day of love, or is it just another day much like any other? I feel there is far too much importance placed on this particular day, as well as far too many expectations, and costs. I'd like to know what you think...

Well, I think every day should be Valentine's Day between couples, but sadly it is not. So we must enforce it! Of course it is also a day to show our children our love, but we show that every day too, don't we? We should. It has become really commercialized. One year I complained about never getting roses for Valentine's Day. So hubby went out and got me roses on Valentine's Day but when he gave them to me there was no love, no heart in it. Because on Valentine's Day they jack up the prices. So I agreed never to request flowers again. He bought me roses today (cheaper today than tomorrow!) just because I pointed out that he sent flowers to his sister and his mother last week because they were ill. He spent $50 each. My girls told me all he was buying me was a stuffed animal. I put the kibosh on that! I spent so many years having no one acknowledge me on Valentine's Day as I watched others receive flowers and cards (even in high school), so I like to get some special treatment but I would prefer it to be more than just one day a year.

You're right...it shoudl be something that is celebrated every day of the year, not just one. Like everything, it has become far too commercialized and expensive. I've give up asking or expecting anything from my hubby for Valentines Day...and I know he's not the type to send flowers to anyone else in his family. Good for you in asking to be acknowledged on this day. I just don't expect anything anymore!

To me it is just another day, in Australia it is not really a big deal, when I was working the same girls always seemed to get flowers sent to them at work from their husbands or boyfriends, I was told by them various things like their partners eith would not be game or simply that it was in their best interest to send something as one said you have hint strongly....for to get something sent to me under those circumstances just wouldn't mean a thing...:)
