How many here would report a parent that is on drugs and neglecting kids?

I just responded to a discussion that angered me. I am not putting down the person that made the post, it's about the person the post was in reference to. I ended up with a most horrible childhood due to drugs and the lack of concern from neighbours. Myself and my 3 brothers ended up being left on the side walk while our parents just drove off. The drugs and finances just became too much so they decided it was better than to give up the kids instead of the drugs. Would you step in to save kids from this?? I will call the authorities every chance I get, but not without a real reason every time, so I don't get ignored.

I would definitely do, and more over before doing that, I will hand them a nice slap onto their face and wake them up. If they can't manage the children, why on earth did they produce them? I really get angered when hearing about such ignorant parents.

I tend to get a bit upset with them myself.

I agree. I get so angered at parents who think they are parents. These children are so innocent. I would call in a heart beat!!

I would make the report in a heartbeat if I knew the situation was really as it appeared. I am a mandatory reporter and caring for children is my job. I am also a parent and the mother in me cries for any child who is not treated like the treasure they are. If the system was not so screwed up I would probably have 100 stray children living in my home! I regularly hand out food, coats, mittens and encouragement to parents who are feeling overwhelmed. Some parents are just crappy parents, others are just at the end of their ropes. Poop runs downhill, as the saying goes. The thing is, when your children are at the bottom of the hill you have to something to stop the downhill flow before it reaches them.

By all means this should and still should be reported with kids from neglected homes such as this. This angers me that child welfare only comes to homes that really don't need to be there and stories such as this, where the heck are they?

I would absolutely call child protective services and or the police as necessary. It seems having children is a pastime for people and it needs to come to a halt. I just don't get it, people have kids and don't care for them and they buy pets and don't take care of them. It's as though they feel special just because they have them.
