I posted on a discussion the question if anyone's ever seen a commercial for starbucks and like myself, they haven't. How did the coffee company starbucks get so big?

Starbucks actually started when some brilliant person decided to add a little big of cream and alittle bit of milk to coffee, then he started adding flavors like chocolate and caramel, he finally got enough money up to open his own shop, now we know them as starbucks throughout the world.

People love coffee and Starbucks was the first chain of its kind. I go to other coffee shops because Starbucks refused to send coffee to our troops in Iraq. I won't patronise any business that don't support American troops.

I certainly would not claim to be an authoritative source on this particular discussion but as I understand it, many of the Starbucks outlets are in fact franchises where the shop owners effectively use the starbucks name and pay a surcharge to do so, but run the businesses themselves. As a result there is competition even between the same business, I think there is an area of London with something like 4 Starbucks in literally a 2 minute walk. I might be very wrong on this of course. I suggest that your discussion could be extended into the ethics of this kind of business model as well, Starbucks is a global brand, nothing wrong with that at all, I drink there, but how does it make such huge amounts of money, does it have an ethical trading policy with coffee growers?
