Do you think it really is possible to attain a lifetime of happiness? or is this just some dumb dream that we all have from time to time.

I think that 'happiness' is supposed to be temporary. The constant or the permanent one is 'joy'. I have read that somewhere. Anyway, it's just a play with words --haha. It's really difficult to be happy all the time. We are humans and we are not content. Perhaps some who have learned to be content with what they have in life are truly happy. Thus, it's possible to obtain constant happiness if we try so hard to live with lower expectations, live with what is 'enough' and enjoy life to the fullest. Welcome to myLot!

ag_abscruzmd Hi, good point! yes "Do not expect anything and you won't be disappointed" lower expectations, is not how much you got, but how much do you need! even in relationships, give love with no strings attach, just give without expecting to receive nothing in return! there is not happiness but constant joy, it is a state of mind. Great answer, there are a lot of wise people in MyLot! Happy to be here!

I don't think anyone can even expect a lifetime of happiness, its the ying yang of life, sadly a lot of people never appreciate the good they have in their life until they have a bit bad.... but I think we all just have to be happy with what we have, an inner feeling thing....

lilaclady, yes I agree, but sometimes we tend to forget the blessings that we have until you turn your head and look behind you and see other people that have it worse than you! Thank You

Hiya and welcome to mylot. Happiness is possible but I dont think we can attain it 24/7- there will be hardships and bad times in life, but to me, those times make you appreciate the times of happiness and joy. I take any life experience as a learning experience, even if its negative, as we take something from it- either ways to avoid the same mistake, or to help another person. Happiness is also a state of mind, it can happen but it takes a positive outlook and dedication to order to achieve it. Good topic!

Hi lush_heidi, yes I agree, I like your answer, yes it is a state of mind, it depends of how you take bad times or negative times, it should be a time for learning, and somehow make something positive out of it. Thank You
