Have you ever been trapped inside your home? How did you get out?

Has anyone ever gotten trapped inside their home, whether during a storm or some other reason? Last winter, I could not get out of my house because of too much snow and ice blocking my doorway, both front and back. I tried contacting my neighbors but they were not around. I ended up climbing out my living room window to get out. I felt so embarrassed having to do that but had no other choice other than jumping out the window from the second floor or waiting for someone to help. Would you feel embarrassed climbing out your window? Good news is it was not a big fall. LOL My neighbor this evening could not get her door to open and I went over and cleared the ice from her door way for her.

That had to look funny, you climbing out the window cause you couldn't get out the door. My front door knob broke one time and we couldn't open the front door, it wouldn't work. That was nice of you to help you neighbors. I was once trapped in a work truck. I backed it up in the garage for the night, the door handle broke off. I was to close on the other side to get out that way. I had to use the 2 way radio and call the front ofice, to come and let me out of the truck.

Fortunately, nobody was around to see me climb out my window. I am just glad to have gotten out and be able to clear my front door of the snow and ice. My neighbors both have health problems so I help them as much as I can so that they will be okay. We are having a storm now so I am keeping my eye out this time. LOL

That has never happened to me. However, I once was trapped inside an outhouse at a gas station. Talk about embarresment. The door would not open, and I was screaming and pounding on it, until some man opened it. It was an awful experience.

That had to be a awful feeling being trapped inside an outhouse. I certainly would not like that either. I am glad someone came and got you out of there.

I have never been trapped in my house..but have been trapped out of my house and had to climb back in to the house through a window ..and the neighbors thinking i was breaking in called the police..That was embarrassing having to explain that I was breaking into my own house..really 'apartment'

That definitely had to be an embarrassing situation to have to break into your house or apartment. I felt embarrassed climbing out the window, though I don't think anyone saw me. :-)

A few years back, I think it was 1992, we had a blizzard. When we got up that morning, snow was blocking our way but there was a tiny space with just enough room to stand and we could shovel our way out. Many others in our apartment complex had to climb out their windows so they could shovel. It was days before we had it all cleaned up. I thought about that year yesterday during our recent storm, so I stayed up all night just to check the door every so often. I went out a few times to keep the entrance way cleared. We got no where near the amount that we did during the blizzard but it is kind of scary to be trapped in your own home. I'm glad you got out ok. Lets hope there are no more snow storms this year.

I do not mind the snowstorms too much, though two feet of snow is a bit too much or even a foot. I am more concerned about the ice build up around the door more than anything, especially since my neighbor got stuck in her home because her door had ice which prevented it from being opened. I am glad that you were able to get out safely.

We did a couple of years ago when it snowed so much that the snow was over half way up the door outside . It wasn't that big of a deal though because all the roads were blocked and no one could go anywhere's anyway but I made my husband go out and unblock the door as I was worried about what would happen if there was a fire and we needed to get out . We were not trapped long as my husband did like you and climbed out the window and then shovelled the snow that was in front of the door . I thought it was kind of scary though just because that is all you could see everywhere was snow and even though we have always got a lot of snow , we had never had this much snow before where we were actually stuck in our house .

Wow. Glad that your husband was able to get out through the window as well and clear the snow away from the door. We are having another storm right now and have put down some rock salt to help keep the door from being blocked.
