Someone Stole My E-gold!

Recently, some Son of a B**** gained access to my e-gold account and took all that is left for me there. I think they are the owners of a specific pay per post site that has recently been shut down. The mistake I did was that I used the same password for the forum, my egold and my email. Apparently the guy tried the same password on my email, to get the PIN, and BAM! It worked, and he couldn't believe his eyes! Now I had to change the passwords... I got some info about him as well as his email address from googling the transaction's "To" name.... Now I'm confused between emailing and calling him on his ***** or just asking politely for my money back (not my type)... Another great option, is to do the exact same thing to him, which I know I can, but needs time.... Anyone had similar experience before? What do you suggest?

By the words... my e-gold account was stolen near to 4 days ago, too... Strange, don't you think? I had thinking about to open a discussion. I never use the same password in my e-gold account and it is always long and difficult so I think it was a hucker. I was very upset and angry! Unfortunately it happens often with e-gold! I am very sorry, sincere, about he took all from your e-gold, too. But I do not think you'll get your money back from him a polite way.

Oh My God! You opened my mind to a new possiblity... what if you are right and that there was really a serious hacker on the lose! maybe the same thing happened with me... a serious hacker that didn't really try my passphrase on both egold and my email and they matched! He just inserted some kind of a keylogger or a trojan into our PCs... Maybe egold afterall were right,,, they told me of this possibility but I was like: no way! An advise: Scan your PC very well... I'll just do that... also if you notice that the pc is getting slower for no reason, that might be a sign...(I am kindda experiencing this now)... Best of luck! F***** hackers ruined my day!

never use the same password for different accounts. you could search here for e-gold and online security, and now you need to check all your other accounts!

Why quit? Discovered it wasn't as easy as it first sounded? Though you still like their links' name: "moreinfo" ;)

I have no balance in my e-gold account so no use to hunt my account as balance is zero. You should give long passphrase and do not keep open long time your e-gold account and set maximum security device available inside e-gold account that is if ip address is change e-gold staff will send a one time use pin for opening your account one time. However, check your history of payment and see at which account it goes and claim. How we will be safe from hacker and online cheater I do not know any site where to complaint about cheaters?

You are right, but the prob is, as I mentioned earlier, I used to use one password for both egold and the email... the Son Of A B**** got access to my egold's passphrase and tried it on my email and they matched! he can easily now get the PIN.

hi mystery man, bad news about the password & e-gold... one of my pet philosophies is that the best way to learn is through pain - it really makes a lesson stick... what I'm trying to say is that this is an unsavoury experience to have gone through, but it's most likely added some real-life context to all those exhortations that people make to never use the same password for different (important) accounts. it also shows up a key aspect of the e-gold security model - the user has to shoulder personal responsibility for the privacy of the pass-phrase. everything hinges around that. one thing that I CAN suggest for your consideration is having a close look at the Roboform program - it's very good at storing and managing all sorts of sensitive passwords securely on your own PC, as well as offering other useful facilities for filling out online forms and stuff. It comes free with a 30 day trial, and costs $30 to register. Takes a bit of time to play with and get used to how to work it, but VERY convenient for anyone who has multiple passwords to store and use. as for the lowlife who pinched your e-gold stash, he'll get his in the next life - I've read a few mystical accounts of the subject, and anyone who has any conception of what that means would never have done the deed in the first place... if you CAN find a way to get your money back from him - do it! but do try to keep it in perspective with your normal living priorities...

Thanks man for the kind words and for suggesting Roboform... I'll take a look at it... I believe I have an idea as to whom it might be, the low life freak who pinched my e-gold stash... I think he is the owner of another pay per post forum, I was a member of before they shut down and scammed the people off their commissions/payments... If I have the time, I'll just ask the other members where he is from, and if the countries matched, then there would be no doubt.... My sis used to always tell me not to use the same password in important accounts, but I was always like: come'on! what are the odds?!! Now I think I know what the odds are, and she still can't stop herself laughing at me now!! LOL Funny thing it happened at the same time of some other freak here in mylot stole an entire discussion I posted! I wrote about it in another post of mine... Do I attract such people? LOL

thats too bad, for future i think that you should choose a way that tracks your IP, and then you have to give a pin every time you get in. and your account will not be stolen from

If we are talking about a large sum of money then I would report it the authorities. Is there no safety net for this sort of thing with e-gold? Perhaps they might be able to advise you better.

Already contacted them... they suspected that there was some kind of a trojan, or Keywordlogger in my PC, and advised me to take the necessary actions to avoid such things in future (detailed e-mail with instructions...all based upon having a trojan or a hacker gaining access to my PC). The thing is, it wasn't a trojan or anything.... they just don't know that I use the same password... I don't think there is much they can do about it...
