I think it is a two edged sword this contactability. I still don't trust the microwaves that it emits right through the eardrum and into the brain. The FCC had a warning for the longest in the front of every cell phone manual, now they say that these microwaves are not cancer causing. I also have times when I want to be unreachable. Then my everyday cares and concerns wouldn't be able to so readily drag me back to the grind when I am enjoying something, somewhere, or someone and wish not to be bothered.

I think having one is a good idea, because if you are stuck somewhere you can easily call family or friends or even the tow truck. It's very useful. I Can't leave home without mine.

I agree with you it is one of the best communication that ever invented for we can contact our loveones and friends in whatever place they are specially when we have to attend meetings we can say to our contact that we going to be late for some unexpected reasons.

I think cell phones are great for emergencies. I however, do not think they are good while you are driving. They have a tendency to take peoples minds off driving and on their conversation. I also think that people do not realize how loud they are. I can go into any store and there is someone on a cell phone and I get to hear his whole conversation as a matter of fact the whole store can hear him. I personall don't care what he is doing for the weekend or after work or what ever. There is a time and a place for a cell phone and when you are in line waiting for the cashier to ring you out is one place you should show a little courticy and get off the phone.

We did survive quite well without mobile phones for a very long time, and in fact we know quite a lot of people who still do. However we do have a mobile phone but it is only because we are often away from civilisation and do like to know that in an emergency we can contact someone for assistance, should it be needed. Having said that, I have to add that we are often off the beaten track and so the service can be a little bit erratic, so for that reason we also have a UHF radio fitted to our vehicle. Also we take all the necessary precautions of letting someone know where we are going, when we will be back and so on, just as a safety precaution.
I think that in many instances people are actually slaves to their mobile phone and they never go anywhere without theirs. Having a mobile phone can also be intrusive, because there is nothing more annoying than being out somewhere nice and having to listen to a phone conversation another person is having.
Used with discretion, they are fine, but far too many people actually rely on them too much. Also people who know others have a mobile phone, often think they can contact them whenever they like.

well in this millenium mobile phone is Great new technology that we are using more and more everyday. I just wish they would speed up installing new towers so we can get better reception and less dropped calls. If you really think about all the ways we use our mobile phones these days, it's amazing. Technology is terrific and adds so much to our lives...bad effect will secure too.
