At what age did you let you kids at friends houses? I was a lifeguard for years and I'm nervous to let my daughter swim at a friends house without me there. Am I being lame?

My kids are only 7 and 4, but it's going to be a long time before I let them swim at a friend's house without me. My daughter's best friend has a pool, and I feel nervous just letting her go over there to play, even when the pool is covered.

I have alot of friends who are close and like family. I think it all depends on how you feel this people are with your kids and how your kids will handle the situation.

I don't think they'd leave them alone out there or anything but I can't see the mom getting in the pool with the kids! She's just sit on the edge or watch from a lounge chair or something, you know? I keep telling my daughter No every weekend and now the mom calls me to ask, I keep making up excuses. I can't just say, "Uhm... I dont trust you! So, no thanks." Nor can I invite myself over too! ha ha ha

swimming can be very dangerous...unsupervised kids can get hurt diving, cramp up, etc...many things can happen with a bad outcome... i dont have any kids yet, but it would take a lot for me to trust the other parents with my child at their pool... you're not being lame at all, just a responsible parent...

Thanks, maybe when she gets to be 10 or 11 and more proficcient I'll let her go. I pulled one too many kids out of oceans and pools when I worked as a lifeguard. Too scary when they are your own. Thanks again for your thoughts. I appreicate them.
