Is GMAIL account is for free now?

So, now we don't have to get invitation to have a Gmail account.
When I today, sign out to my Gmail account then I saw that its signup is for free. Is it for real.

Yah I also noticed it sometime ago. Its good that there will be no more need of referrals for opening a gmail account. And you have the same facilities on! Ur mailbox is increasing day by day in size, so no need to worry about space. Gmail is really fabulous.

I think its not referrals, its invitation. And even gmail giving its account for free, it didn't compromised it with mailbox space.
