Are we addicted to mylot?

How to tell: Ten indications you are addicted to mylot 1. You check mylot before the coffee is finished making in the morning or you make mylot your homepage. 2. You plan your day around how many discussions you'll make and how many you'll respond to 3. You use mylot as an excuse to avoid doing other things like housework or cooking dinner 4. You are on mylot while at work 5. Your inbox is filled with "Your friend" or "New Response" messages 6. You have more friends on mylot then you do in real life 7.You start conversations with "I just read on mylot ..." 8. You tell others to wait while you finish reading and/or writing on mylot 9. You stay up another ten minutes or longer so you can read/post one more thing on mylot 10. You toss and turn in bed thinking of new discussions to post at mylot and then debate on getting up and posting it right then. By the way does anyone know of a good 12 step program for mylot addiction? I think I need one :)

1) I don't drink coffee, but I do drink tea and yes I check myLot before making my tea. 2) I don't actually plan on how may topics I'll respond to at all. 3. Hell yes ;) 4. ummm I am right now LOL 5. I don't use the mail me feature LOL 6. Not quite, but getting there LOL 7. ummm ya I am guilt of that too. 8. yup done that one 9. ten minutes... LOL I wish... hours is more like it LOL 10. Well I toss and turn in bed about other issues right now, but once and a while a mylot thread floats thru my head.

Hehehe good to know I'm not the only one. We might need a 12 step group soon although I for one would rather be here then at a group discussing why I shouldn't be :) This is far more fun.

That's a good idea :) That way we can do our self help while we feed our addiction. Works for me.

Why not start a group on myLot for myLot addicts.... Just start an interest called myLotaholics Anonymous and we'll talk about the 12 steps.

I think I am addicted as the other night I was lying in bed and posting and replying to messages was just going round and round in my head. I do use it as an excuse not to do housework, but then anything is a good excuse for me!

I agree with that one. Anything is a good excuse not to clean the house. Mylot is better then some for that's for sure.

That's for sure. I'm all for not doing chores. So if this gets me out of it then it's worth being here :)

hahahahaha Emerald, I certainly don't toss and turn in bed yet lol. If I did I would worry about myself but I have to admit the few Days I was without connection I really missed it. And whenI did get back I will not tell you how many E-Mails I had waiting lol but it was a lot. Took me a week to catch up.

okay emerald, this is frightning. I have done most of those 10 things! I tell you what, the support group can meet at my house. I'll appoint you the president. I'll be the secretary and keep notes...on my laptop. I promise not to have another window open to mylot....

Heheh so have I that's where the list came from. Might want to have lots of coffee and snacks. If we aren't on here we'll need to do something while we talk.

Aha I'm addicted..but then I already knew that, it's great to know it officially though. The mylot friends part's probably the easiest given, I only have three true friends in real life..and my twenty or so on mylot beats that one easy lol.

Yeah same here. I have a lot more friends on mylot then I do in real life. That's ok though. This way my real life ones can't be jealous of all the time I spend on here.

YES! I am addicted to MYLOT! I check mylot first thing in the AM! Usually have answered a couple of discussions before taking my son to school! LOL Mylot IS my homepage! I do set goals of answering at least "BLANK" discussions in any given day. I left the house today at 8am and didn't come back until almost 4pm and I had 84 emails in my inbox and they were ALL from my friends on MYLOT! LOL Yes, my name is Elisa and I am a MyLot-aholic!!

Nice to meet you Elisa :) I'm one too. Scary isn't how much we can get addicted to this place so quickly. Nice though in a way too. I've had a lot of fun here.

A few weeks ago I would have passed criteria on this test Emerald. Then I turned my friends "off", sorted through over 1000 emails and am now down to a manageable 50+. I have now been able to again turn some friends back "one" (in the most platonic way, mind you), and am ready to begin again!~Donna

I am addicted to Mylot for sure, but may be you can't find all ten indications in me though. In the morning I start my computer first and then whil making my tea I check Mylot. I always tend to spent more time on Mylot but still I keep a balance in between my other work and MYlot.

Finding that balance isn't always easy I know. It can be very difficult. Keep up the good work.

I realize that many people have responded, and probably wrote the same things...however, I have to add, you are absolutely correct, it can be addictive. And, there are many time where I have had those "symptoms", I guess we all need therapy or something.

We probably do but I don't know of any therapy for this place. Besides to go to therapy would mean coming off mylot..that means no interaction, no money, nope no therapy for me.

You're not the only one that needs the 12 step program for it!! I am guilty of almost every single one of those (I'm not employed at the moment, unless you consider "housewife" to be a job description. LOL). Especially number 7. I am constantly telling my husband about the posts I read. Mylot has taken over my life!! hehehe

Of course housewife is a job description. It descripes several jobs :) Isn't it great though to come on here and just ignore it all for at least a little bit?

I'm guilty as charged. When I log onto my computer in the morning, I check the local news, then head straight to my email to read all my friends' discussions. I spend the greater part of each day on mylot, stopping only to take care of my family and home (and for a select few tv programs). My only trouble is that I spend most of my time here reading. If I responded to every discussion that I read here on mylot, I would have several thousand points by now.

Oh I know what you mean. There are many that I just read and some days I do more of that then reading and responding. It's hard to pull ourselves a way at times from such good discussions.

That's a pretty good indication that you are addicted. When it invades your dreams then I'd say it's gotten to you.

Sadly the answer is obvious. I have been too busy with calving to be able to log onto mylot. I actually have a chance to catch up on some much needed sleep and household chores, but look where I am. What ever.....I enjoy it!

This is hilarious! Yup, I'm definitely addicted. I had to laugh especially at #9 because one night I stayed up all night and then went to work without any sleep just because of mylot. =p Most of those others apply to me, except I can't be on mylot at work because my company is too smart for that. I can only access intranet, not internet, at work. What kind of company doesn't want to pay you for not doing your job??? It's horrible, I tell ya!

Heheh I've been up all night too before but thankfully once I got the kid off to school and such I could crash for awhile. Sounds like your job is just mean..they should allow everyone time on the internet and especially here :)

My name is Sheila and I am an addict! LMAO I love this post. The only symptom I don't have is number five. However I have seen many times when I've phoned my sister (long distance I might add!!) and neither of us is talking because we're both too busy reading and responding to something here at this site!
