I think that the skin on your body is marked by your passage through life. Kind of like a road map to show where it has been and what it has been up to. Like the scar on your shin from when you were a kid and you ate it on your bike or roller skates/blades. So too is body piercing and tattooing. All of it is evidence of the passage of your life. Do you have tattoos and body art? Piercings? We all have scars, where did they come from?

Interesting topic. I can see what you're saying by "your passage through life". I never really thought about it like that but can totally see it. I have a few scars from skateboarding, camping, fighting and other things (some just being plain stupid). I have a lot of tattoos and yes, each one of those marks someting in my life (I dont really want to get into all of them though).

But in each one is a memory and it tells all about you with each story.

I have 5 tattoos and piercings. My husband is covered with tattoos and a lot of his are demonic. Most people see the tattoos and right away assume that he worships satan or something stupid like that. The reason he has demonic tattoos is to remind him of the Hell he has been through during his life time!

Reminders of the times he's come through. I can dig it.

I have a few scars, some people notice and some not. My most prominent one is on the front of my right shin from the days I used to run high hurdles...I tried one day to run THROUGH the hurdle (ouch!) and the second one is from my c-section (though it's faded with time). I also have several on my head (knocked a ceramic doll that broke on my head, 2 from the same coffee table--one under my chin and the other in my left eyebrow); the back of my leg from the coffee table (I broke it this time!); 3 light scars in my shoulder from surgery. There's also one on the back of my left wrist from when I fell running. I only have 1 tat, a zodiac symbol I got when I thought I might have MS (later diagnosed) but I plan to get one next weekend. I have only my ears pierced--did the bottom of my lobes three times but finally had to let them grow in because of tears and scars; the middle ones that I still wear earrings in; and the top left (I did 3 in one ear) that I also let grow in.

So your whole story is there on your skin. Isn't it funny though, I have three holes in my right lobe and only 1 in the left. My lobes are fine and when i go out I wear earings in all of them.

i do not have deliberate piercings (except ears) or tatoos or other body art.... but i totally agree with you my each and every scar reminds me of an adventure... an incident something to look forward to... that trekking expedition.... that flight through the stairs... learning a bike etc

your skin is like a roadmap that tells where you've been.
