My phone fell in...and drowned!

I was washing my hands in the school restroom and my phone was in my front pocket. I bent down to get some soap, and before I knew it, my phone fell inside the sink!!! :( It completely drowned. I tried turning it on, but it's still going crazy. It turns on and off. I was going to take it to Verizon and explain to them, but my one year warranty doesn't cover water damage. I'm so frustrated, because I just bought it too. It's the new Motorola razr. The nice lavender looking color. Has this ever happened to anyone? Where your cell phone has fallen into water? Or has it fallen on the floor and cracked into little peices? How did you deal with it? Did you have to buy a new one did your insurance cover it?

The cell phone that I had before the one that I have now, was so tiny, it was always falling on campus. Especially since I am always in a hurry to get from one class to the next, because they are so far away. I used to drop it at least once or twice a day. Then, one day, it fell in the mall, where I used to work, about 3 or 4 times, and since then, it has not been able to ring...so that is wierd. But, my hubby got us a pair together, because he wanted to update his, that was good. But, I loved that little cell phone, my newer one is bigger and more annoying, even though it cost more and has more features, I liked the old one more.

Yeah I don't like this one as much as I like no no-flip phones, but I just got it less than a year ago. And I just don't know how to get it fixed because it's going to cost me just as much to have someone fix the inside if it doesn't dry on it's own.

I seem to have bad luck and am a major klutz with electronic objects. I ran over one cell phone after it dropped on the ground underneath my car tire. I dropped another one on the ground and it smashed in half. I drowned a third one in my shoulder bag when a bottle of water spilled because I hadn't closed it properly, along with my BRAND NEW 60G iPod. Oh, that was a terrible day! My cellphone is still working, it came back on after it dried out, but it's not working as well as it used to and doesn't have the same range. The iPod is toast! I never did check to see if insurance would cover it, I guess I should.

Well, it's not like I did it on purpose, but you're right, I should be more careful. The darned things are just so small though that they are easily dropped! Oh well, in the end they're just things that can be replaced.

my husbands friend gave him a phone that had water damage. she had tried cleaning it because it was dirty and it didn't turn back on. it was the Razor phone too, the pink one. its wasn't new, but still in good condition if it would just turn on. she did have to buy a new phone though. it just teaches you to be a little more carful with them. i know i used to drop my phone quite a bit, but most of the time they were in a case or something and of course it was the old Nokia ones. basiclly, if your card is still good, just get another one. right now i have 2 differend phones i can chose from when i decide to get a joint plan with my husband. you just have to learn from your mistakes and cough up some money for another phone. you can try and take it back, maybe they'll just give you a discount on another phone.

This reminds me of this one time my oldest sister and i were in a restaraunt and i let her oldest son that at the time was rather young play with my cell phone. It was also brand new at the time ... LOL! I looked over at him again and the next thing that i knew my new cell phone was in his apple juice ... LOL!! At the time i was crushed but i got over it as it was my fault for letting him play with it ... LMAO!! I just took the battery out and dried that part of it super good and it worked again and that was apple juice. Just dry it out real good and i think it just may work for you again!!! Good luck!!

Not promising anything but you might be able to save your phone. Take it apart including the battery and leave it to air for a day or so. When you put it back together you may be lucky and all is ok - it worked with my Sony Ericsson when I accidentally dropped it in a toilet once!I used to have a phone with an external ariel - my friend's dog took a fancy to it and chewed it off. The phone was over a year old so no longer under warranty although it didn't matter as the reception on the phone was better afterwards!

Yes I have but lucky enough the Phone managed to dry out so not a lot of Damage was done. But it did take a long time for it to totally dry out. I left it near a Heater for days and eventually it worked again.

My guitar buddy and his girlfriend showed up at a jam one night and my friend had a pink cell phone. I had noticed his phone sounded crappy but thought it was the reception. I asked him about it. He had dropped his other phone in the toilet three times before it just stopped working and now he was using his girlfriends phone.

IMy sister in law did this-- Except we were on vacation in NC beach-- We went to the USS NC ship and went tot he bathroom. She bent over to put one of those seat protectors on the seat and her phone slipped out of her coat pocket and into the toilet! GROSS-- It was looking pretty wierd-- She left it alone for a day and it dried out and then worked fine.. So I'd try leaving it to dry for a bit first.. If it doesn't work-- Take it back to the Verizon store you bought it at.. You really have no other choice..Did you purchase the additional insurance? This might cover it?? If not it might be cheap to fix it-- It won't hurt to ask-- I mean you have to have a phone that works if you're going to pay the monthly fees. Good luck!!!

oh my! I've been lucky in not having any terrible accidents befall my cell phone or my husbands. We've had cell phones for about 8-9 years now and I guess we've been lucky. I used to get the phone insurance but decided that paying out that extra money every month really was not worth it. Besides there is usually a $50 deductable too that you have to pay upfront ~ I think the insurance costs are way to high - if you pay for a year + the deductable you can pretty much buy a new phone for that! If the insurance covered real life accidental (like your water damage) coverage it MIGHT make it more worthwhile. Sorry for your phone being ruined. I hope you can get a new phone quickly.

about 4 or 5 years ago my phone drowned, in the toilet! I immediatly grabbed it, and tried drying it with a hand drier. ehehee.. by the way the phone is still working! then, about a year ago. My daughter went out in the street running. I hand to run to get her before she might get hurt.. then there goes my phone... it went flying landing on the canal (sewer). Like before I just grabbe it out of shock i guess and handblowed dry it. It did work after hours of drying... nonetheless I took it for some repairs.. luckily its still working...

I have never had my phone fall into water but it has fallen on the floor many time but it did not break. I have a friend that her phone fell into water, she cried cos then she does not have money to buy another one. She repaired it alright but the luck she has was that hers was Nokia phone. Nokia phone is not like other phones that once it falls it scatters and one can not fix. It has fallen on the floor number of times and into water too.

I used to have to carry a pager for my old job. Mine fell in the toilet, fortunately I had already flushed and the water was clean :) My daughter dropped her old phone into the swimming pool. Think her dad had the insurance on it, so it was replaced. I've heard, you can take it apart and let it dry out thoroughly for a few days and it may be ok. My fiancee spilled a little bit of his drink on my newer cell phone, happened a few months ago. He got the little port area where it charges. I wiped it, let it dry as best I could. Now, every once in awhile it'll act like it's charging and beep on and off constantly. But, I get my free once a year upgrade in less then a month, so figured I'd just wait it out. Good luck with yours, that does suck!!! Try taking it apart and letting it air dry.

i had this happen to me a few times actually and most of the time they wont work afterwards, but put the battery out and let the phone completely dry this could take awhile. mine took 3 months before it would turn back on, by then i already had a new one. insurance didnt cover mine because it wasnt worth enough to insure it.

The insurance for the phone didnĀ“t cover it when this happened to me, but i had an insurence of my home that covered it. It sucks when this happens =) I also have another one, I picked it apart and let it dry out for a week and then it started working again. Good luck!

I feel sorry for you. Yeah a new phone dropped in water or broke into pieces will sure to malfunction and can never as nifty as before. But once, I overheard some people in a mass transit train said he had the experience as yours. He tried to put the drowned phone on his table and let it dry up. Then the device works okay at last. A year ago I dropped my hand set on floor while I am running to catch the bus. It broke and never worked normal again. All I could do was to buy a new one.
