When you was a kid did yor parents tell you these old stories that would scare you half to death like bloody bones and the man with the golden arm or maybe the panther. Well im having trouble remembering the whole story of bloody bones. Can you tell me the version you heard. Mine starts out like so: There once was this girl and her mother who lived way out in the forest and the mother would always send the girl to town to sell the eggs and she always had to pass by this deserted house she was terrified of. Well one day she was passing by with the eggs and heard a scarey voice saying this is bloody bones and scarey eyes and i want them eggs. well this is where i forget the rest maybe i blocked it out because it scared me but have you ever heard this and know what happens next?

Seems to be an Irish legend for the most part...here is what I dug up on wikipedia (by the way, the creature is also known as Rawhead and was the inspiration for the Clive Barker (one of my fave authors)story and movie Rawhead Rex),.. He is said to live near places of water (in older tellings) and under sink pipes (in newer tellings). Rawhead and Bloodybones rewards very good children, but will punish naughty children by dragging them down the drainpipes or into the water and drowning them. In addition to drowning naughty children, he is said to be able to turn them into objects such as pieces of trash or spots of jam, which are inadvertently cleaned-up and thrown out by unwitting parents

HAHAhA thats a lot diffrent than what my grandmother told me. She said he lived under door steps and would rip your skin off if you didn't do as he said.

Thanks joey i will try to do some research on it. My greatgrandma use to tell it to me all the time and i feel so bad that i cant remember it. In a weird way its like family tradition to pass along these old stories and i want to tell my kids about it.

I remember hearing about a golden arm. But don't remember the details. I do remember hearing abunch of scary stories as a kid. But the only one I can remember is the headless horsemen.

No sorry when I was young my parents never read to me any story, so I cannot comment on this particular story, or any story that scared me when I was growing up, so maybe I was lucky that I never heard anything that would scare me, and I never read any scarey story to my children and maybe this is the reason why.
