Yes, I note many, many people from the Philippines are posting to Mylot.com. Well, if you're going to do that make it worth our while and describe your fascinating country. I was told there are 7,000 islands that make up the Philippines? Is this right? Where are the hot spots, the cool places to visit? I really want to know!

Yes, the Philippines is a very beautiful country with lots to offer the common and not so common tourists. Whatever strikes your fancy the Philippines has it. Surfing? Go to Siargao. Beautiful white sand beaches? There's boracay and El Nido, Palawan. Nature Trip? Mountain Hiking/Climbing? There's Mt.Apo, Mt. Banahaw (also a religious site), Museums abound here, a famous site is intramuros, a spanish fort, found in Manila, or Rizal Shrine, so if you're into history, you can visit them. Into bargain shopping and getting great deals? There's the famous Divisoria, and if you're not into haggling, you can go to big malls, Shangri-la, megamall, mall of asia, galleria, glorietta, rockwell, to name a few, any cab driver can take you to all these malls here in the metro. Or you can try riding our famous jeepneys (one of those only in the Philippines stuff). So many things to do, so many places to visit, just take your pick. Come visit us! I'll tell you many of the people here, maybe even here in mylot, will be willing to guide you when you get here for sure.

There's no much that is fascinating about the Philippines. I don't know where to begin. Please refer me to key people and places, one at a time, and I will enjoy anything you describe. Thank you!

There are 7,107 islands in the Phils, a lot of which are homes to the world's most beautiful beaches--Boracay, Bohol, Palawan to name a few. The Philippines is also home to the eighth wonder of the world: the man-made Banaue rice terraces. If you're a culture vulture, aside from the museums in the city, I'd recommend you visit Ilocos (for some old-school, Spanish-influenced architecture), the Cordilleras (where civilization hasn't jaded the people's rich and interesting culture), Kiangan (where there's a shrine commemorating the end of World War II), etc etc oh there's just too many to mention!! If you're more of an outdoor person, there are bizillions of beaches to choose from, the best of which are Boracay (white sand), Panglao in Bohol (which is also a good place to learn diving, I was told), Palawan and La Union (where you can also surf). The Baguio/Banaue/Cordillera area is also said to be a good place for mountainbiking. For a taste of the wildlife, there's Calauit Island in Palawan, the tarsier site in Bohol, and the Albay park and wildlife in Bicol. For shopping, Manila and Cebu has upscale malls, or Divisoria in Manila for some serious bargain shopping, oh, and Ongpin, for nice real gold jewelry (you just have to learn to haggle, Chinese merchants dominate the place). So there. :) Hope you could come visit the Philippines soon!!!

Wow, you're great and thanks for the tour. The Banaue rice terraces sound fascinating. I've always been attracted toward the Philippines. Maybe I can visit sooner than I think!

I'm in the Philippines particularly in Cebu. I just would like to react on the comments side. It really depends on the person if he visits the beautiful spots or the not-so-nice spots of the Philippines. I think in any country there are really some of those that you couldn't call as "good" spots. The cool places to visit are in baguio ofcourse cebu, plantation bay and stuff. Very nice beaches and ofcourse there are really wonderful sceneries but then during summer it's hot here.

Thanks for your comments. I have heard of Cebu and my daughter used to date a Filipino boy whose sister married someone from the Osmena family in Cebu. My daughter was very much impressed with Filipino culture, although she later married someone else. I think the Philippines is a very interesting country and would like to know more about it and maybe visit soon.
