I am getting ready to take a flight to Holland, which is 8 hours long. I initially had 2 stops before landing in Holland, but I upgraded to have a direct non stop flight. Now I will be in the plane a solid 8 hours. I am not sure this is best, but at least I do not have to run around airports looking for my next plane. The longest I had before this one was 3 hours to Cancun and I thought I would go stir crazy being cramped in a seat for 3 hours. What is the longest flight you have taken and how many stops?

I think the 'furthest I've ever flown is to Istanbul in Turkey (4 hours, straight through flight) .. wonderful place .. steeped in old charm and ancient ways .. yet bang up to date with modern buildings too .. a real mix of the old and new all in one place .. But the 'longest' flight I've ever had was to Liberia, West Africa ... I flew from London to Paris .. where I was supposed to hop onto a direct plane to Liberia, Africa .. but it was foggy .. so I missed the connection .. I stayed over night in a swish Paris hotel .. the next day I was put on a Dutch plane going to the Ivory Coast .. where I had to deplane and wait another day for a flight from the Ivory Coast to Liberia .. finally late in the evening a plane arrived .. if I remember rightly it was a twin prop DC9 Ghanaian Airways .. 8 passengers and about 11 crew hehe !! As we had to head out over water (couldn't go directly over the land as there was a war somewhere !!) .. they went through all the emergency drill including actually putting on the life preservers !!! .. They then circled the plane while we had a slap up feast of fresh fruits (cut up right in front of us in the cabin) and beautiful breads and cold cuts .. We then came into land .. and for the life of me I couldn't see a runway ... grass .. it was all grass .. Brahman cows grazing on the grass ... I looked one Brahman bullock right in the eye .. my botty fluttered madly .. and then bump thud skip skip .. and we were down on the grass runway ... Customs was a tin shed .. I had been travelling for 3 days .. I was 7 months pregnant, had an 18 month old toddler and his teddy that he refused to be parted from which was bigger than he was ... No one arrived to meet me .. and as I had been sent to a countryside airport and not the main airport no one spoke English .. after about 4 hours the British Consul rolled up in his swish car ... we all piled in .. dirty, hungry, hot and sweaty ... I spent 10 days at the British Consuls house .. while the roads out to the rubber plantation were rebuilt .. it was the monsoon season and the road kept washing away as fast as it was built .. Hello Africa !!!

I would never want to fly again if I had that experience. Glad you made it ok and glad you didn't give birth during all that.

when i was in highschool, i was sent with 9 other highschool students from all over the philippines to represent our country in the 2 week singapore philippine exchange student event. it was the most exciting part of my life back then. it was an awesome 8 hour straight flight from the philippines. all i did was sleep anyway! haha! and another 8 hours back to the philippines from singapore. great experience for me. and soon this year, i will be going to sweden to be with my boyfriend. that's gonna be 25 hours of travel on air. ofcourse, with hours of stop in hongkong. but still 25 hours! i should really prepare for that!

Returning from a European vacation, we flew 7 1/2 hours from Frankfurt Germany to our Detroit stopover. Then a quick 45 minute flight from there back to Indianapolis. Bring lots to read, and stretch yer legs as much as possible. Hope ya don't smoke!

The longest flight was when I flew from Tennessee in the US to China -- I really don't know how long it was as far as air time due to all the time zones I went through. I left at 7:30 a.m. on a Tuesday morning and arrived at 9:30 p.m. the next night -- it was a LOOOOONG flight. The stops were very brief -- from Tennessee/Knoxville to Chicago, Ill to Seattle, Washington, to Japan and then into China. The stops were very short and I actually had to rush to get to the next plane. The plane was HUGE ~ 2 levels. They showed lots of movies coming and going -- I didn't sleep too much either way, but did catch some short naps. Coming back was just as long - but we went from China to Japan to LosAngeles, California, to Texas and then back to Tennessee.

To be honest I am not a frequent flyer and have only flown about four times in my life, the longest flight was to Cyprus which was about 4 hours, I haven't been any further, it was my first ever flight and I was 26! I really hate flying and being 6 foot 2 it is not very comfortable, 4 hours was long enough for me, probably too long, cooped up and cramped in a small space.

I am not quite that tall, but I am not looking forward to sitting that long either. My son is 6'5" and he went to Holland, but he said ti was all good he wasn't uncomfortable at all. It was his very first flight and he loved it.

My longest trip I took on a plane was when I went to Tonga, I had to go to New Zealand first from Australia and then catch the next plane there was no other way of going there directly apart from going to Fiji first so anyway we went this way as I love to travel with Air New Zealand, when I travel as it is a fantastic airline and you are treated so wonderfully, the flight took us 4 hours. But the only trouble was when we got on the plane from New Zealand to Tonga, oh boy those seats were so small I do not know how they expected any adult to sit it them, but they did ouch...our youngest daughter was with us and she could just fit in it and she is small.

I also like to spend most of my time in the airport. I do not like being in the air for so many hours. I am visiting my son who lives in Germany right on the Holland/Germany line. The flight goes into Amsterdam, se I will spend a few days there too.

i have never been on a flight at all. have never really had the chance and i dont think i would take it if i had it cause im pretty scared to fly! i know they say that flying is safer than being in a car but at least if you have a car crash you have a chance to survive but if the plane goes down......well your screwed.

I had a trip from Portland, Oregon to Dublin, Ireland that took about 18 hours. One stop was in London, and the other was in Belfast. LOL You must be hyperactive or claustrophobic or something, wmg. Three hours really isn't all that long.

My longest flight was from Miami, Florida to Japan which took 24 hours and made so many stops that I consider it to be a shuttle flight. We stopped in Georgia, Texas, California, then changed planes and stopped in Hawai and finally Japan. This was in 1972 and the flight was so long that when I arrived in Japan I slept for 14 hours straight.

I flew from Ohio to New Zealand. 23 hours of flying, much more including layover. The longest trek was from LA to Wellington and it was 13 hours. The worst part is I was sick with a bad fever on the way back the entire time :(.
