On to My Next Project! A Sweater for my Grandson.

My grandson, Troy, will be turning 6 years old on March 18th. Troy is my first grandchild. I did manage to get the crochet sweater finished in plenty of time for my granddaughter, Kyra's birthday, and presented it to her on February 18th. She loved it. As many of you know that sweater gave me a lot of grief. So, I have decided to stick with something that I am familiar with. It is a knitted English Rib Pullover. I have made several of these sweaters and can knit them with my eyes closed, well all most that is. The last one I made was for Troy's 2nd birthday. I am a bit rusty and hope that I will be able to finish this one in time for his 6th birthday. Here is a picture of the sweater. It is relatively easy to make. If you would like a copy of the pattern, send me a message and I will send it off to you.

my brother and his wife had three beautiful twins last year and I am simply in love with them...oh how I wish I could have a bit more time to make lots of things for them..I wish I could do mountains of little presents for them..unfortunately I hardly have time for myself and we don't live very near to each others so I consider myself happy when I can come and visit them and play with them...I am used to seeing them once per month and I do miss them every day...anyway I was able to do their birth ribbon...a lovely big ribbon I stitched for them...I hope they could love it when they grow up and knew I did this for them...It is so beautiful you can do those nice things for your grandson...I am sure they'll love it..I loved every piece my grandma made for me

First of all...Congratulate me please, Butter; I'm a first time grandmother as of last month...lol They live in Calif. so I haven't seen but email pictures as of yet but I used to crochet three dimensional baby blankets; hoping to sell them and make a 'killing'...Not! Well, I'm going to start making one soon for my granddaugter here soon. I put their name, when they were born, weight, head size (if known), when they were born and of course, "It's a Girl" as well... It takes a good month to make depending on how big it's going to be but I'll tell ya, I'm impressed with how they look when they're done... It's like an actual 'birth announcement' that you can keep forever and ever...My friends still have theirs and they're going to give it to the child when they're grown...lol Makes me feel good, that I can create something that will be treasured for years and years...

I think it is amazing that you do so well with knitting. I hqave been trying to teach myself how to knit for quite some time. And I still am not that great. At least I can crochet and sew (lol). I would love a copy of the pattern although I doubt mine would come out as well as yours. Good luck on this project and the future ones.

She was not feeling well when I gave her the sweater. When she is up to par I will get a picture of it and post it for you. The one pictured here is the sweater I will be knitting. I wasn't sure if it really was going to be clear enough. Perhaps I will scan it again.

Your grandchildren are so lucky to receive handmade sweaters; they are wonderful gifts, and they will be so proud to tell everyone that their grandmother made them. I used to be like that with the clothes that my Mother made for me when I was a kid. I'm sure you'll get it done in time, especially since you've done this pattern before. I have never been successful at knitting, crocheting or even sewing- I just don't have the patience for it. I admire you!

I remember other kids bragging about the sweaters or other knitted items that they wore that family members made for them. My mother hasn't the patience for knitting. She is now making quilts and has crocheted some lap blankets that she gives to the kids. I am happy to be one to give something handmade to my kids and grandkids too. They don't even have to brag about it. I get much pleasure in seeing them wear the item.

Isn't it great to be a Grandparent? Can you send the pattern via email? I would love to have it. Do you still have my email address? Good luck with your project. Homemade sweaters are so warm and cozy.

I knit a cute little cotton cardigan for my older son. His little brother now wears it. Sweaters are easier to knit than I thought they'd be. By the way I love your granddaughter's name-it's the same as my oldest daughter. :)

I want one.... I need an XL please. Pink, or Red, and I will pay whatever !!! LOL. I am so jealous of your talents. I can't even make a granny square. By the time I get through it it's always a little lopsided. LOL. I can't wait to see it. Good for you I am sure he will wear it proudly!

You will do fine, you have the experience behind you. I am confident that you will get it done and it will be much appreciated. Have you ever thought of the knitting machines? My aunt had one and seemed to really like it. Just wondering. Good luck with your project and keep us posted!!

I have seen knitting machines and have always wanted to have one. The projects would go so much faster if I had one. I think that I would miss using the 2-needle method. It really so relaxing to be able to sit and knit. Keeps the worries from entering your mind because you are thinking about the next stitch on the needle and not about other things. I can watch television and knit at the same time.

Oh I bet that Kyra loved her birthday present from you it must of looked lovely, oh dear but you had so many problems with her sweater. Well I think that it is best to knit Troy your grandson's sweater the way you know how and it would be lovely for him and I am sure he would be very happy with you knitting it personally for him.

Nice sweater Elusive! You are braver than I am when it comes to making sweaters, LOL. I would rather buy them because, like you, they give me grief to make them, LOL. Thanks for sharing!

You are ahead of me then. I used to knit over 20 years ago. Then last year, out of the blue I decided to take it up again. I wanted to knit for charity. World Vision have this program where every winter, they ask people to knit jumpers for orphans and the underpriveleged in various countries.Last year it was Mongolia where most of the year it was below zero. They gave out a basic jumper pattern. I chose pink, and started. It wss good fun, but I wasn't finished by the time they wanted the jumpers. I think I must be really out of practise. So this winter when the World Vision starts it's knitting program again, I will finsh it.

I's a lovely sweater and so easy to knit. I have tons of wool as I used to knit traditional aran sweaters. I wanted to knit one for my husband but I can't get motivated enough to knit an aran sweater. I saw from your pattern that it is also for an adult, so I would love to have a copy of it. Would you like my email address or can you send it in a pm. It is very good of you to offer.

Oooh I want the pattern. I want to make one for my son. That is so cool that you knitt too. I don't know many people who do. I find that it is more personal to make a gift and most of the time the recipient treasures it more so.
