Sin Eater

I finally found out was a sin eater is. I saw this in a old movies made back in the 1970's. Lindsey Wagner played a doctor and went to the mountains of virginia. Her friend died and they had a sin eater come in.
I looked it up on line and it says it is a ritual to when someone dies a person come in to the veiwing. They are offered food and drink to take away the deceased sins. The sin eaters has to eat the food and drink the drink on behalf of the dead.

I have seen a film with Heath Ledger called the Sine Eater about a Priest and his learning about it. It is a strange thing and the sin eater cannot die but goes on until another will take their place collecting sins. In this film the sin eater tries to trick the riest into taking his place, its quite moving.
A strange thig, life that we build up such odd rituals.

I've never heard this saying before but it's interesting. My family comes from the back hills of Kentucky and they do have some "stange" behaviors.

That's interesting! I remember hearing something about that at one point, but I'd forgotten it. Not surprising, it's such a random little bit of information. But I'm happy to have the memory jogged! Who knows when it might come in handy? It's amazing the little bits of trivia you can put into practice over your life. Even if it's just an answer to a TV trivia show or something!
