Another reason to make your own baby food, recall

I just saw a news report about organic baby food that is possibly contaminated with botulism. There is a big recall. I always feed my baby whatever we are having. But I do keep jars on hand in case he is going to be at my moms or sisters or something. I have been scrambling all day to find out the brand and kind. They have been giving "teasers" all day. The brand is Earths Best Apple Peach Barley Wholesome Breakfast for those of you who are interested. No major discussion, just information.

Yes, it's scary. I have to say that with my kids I mostly made the food myself. I would cook the carrots, or peas, sweet potato. Cook chicken and lamb, even fruits, that I would puree it and freeze it in the ice cube trays. After all the cubes were frozen I would put then in containers or ziplock plastic bags and I could mix and match all I wanted. WHen I wanted to use them I would just pick one or two cubes of this and that put it in the fridge until they were defrosted ( or microwave them if I was in a hurry) and that was it.

I have done the ice cube tray thing. It works wonders. I think he gets more variety this way too, because you only have so many options with the premade baby food.

Yes, I agree about more variety. Plus this way we have a chance to mix and match our own way. It really worked so well with me, that i always suggest it to my new mother friends :)

HOw scary. I buy this brand or I have in the past. :) Although I have not fed my son this type in awhile. Thank goodness. Thanks for the heads up though.

Not a problem. I was worried until I finally found the info. Not something my son has ever had. I would definately be upset if I had recently fed him this though. Just another reason I am glad I am lucky enough to stay home and have the time to make my own.

Not a problem. I figured I might as well post it since I have been worrying all day about it. The news is terrible about giving "teasers" and not just coming out with the information. I typically just feed my son whatever we are having too. But I keep a few jars on hand for when we are on the road, or if someone is watching him.

Oh my gosh and that is even a more pricey organic brand. How scary for parents who have just recently fed that to their baby. Thanks for sharing the info because I had not heard about this recall and I do have a baby who eats jarred baby food most of the time right now.

Not a problem. I know it is so scary. I dont have that particular one in my cupboard, but I know I would be panicking if I did.
