English is popular .Now -a - days a literate person means he knows English. All professional courses are almost taught in English at least in India.Internet servises is In English. One should know English if he/she wishes to go to abroad. What is the reason of popularity of this Language. The British had ruled the world for years together.I think it is the reason.

I hate to break it to you. But literate does not mean you can speak English. It means you can read. If you are illiterate. It means you can't read. I am glad English is getting more popular around the world. A that is the main language I speak. So that helps me out alot. I can speak a small amount of Spanish. Due to having Spanish speaking friends and neighbors. I do wish to be more fluent in speaking Spanish some day soon.

I think that English is already an international language that people all around the world are using it every day to communicate with others. When I was in another country, I spoke with people in English. That was the only way they could understand me.

I think it should be a "standard" language all over the world...more and more people are coming here from other parts of the world, and should know the language.

I think that English is the standard language which is being spoken all over the world. That is why it should be termed as internatinal language. Is not it?

Without English it will be very much difficult to communicate our thoughts to other nationality people.it has become the common international language of the world. As most of the countries are under british regime english has gained popularity and it is wide spread.English has even pushed the local language or the mother tongue to second place.

English could be a second language to all nations except America of course. Its the language where we can be understand by most people, so most of literatures, articles, and other media is translated to this. And I think English is a very versatile language that it can adopt different native dialects and give an equivalent words to it.

Yes, i agree with you.In India all professional courses are taught in English only and most of the official works are in English. No doubt we may call it as an international language only thing is that official approval is required.Who will approve is a question mark?

I think that English is largely the international language. Much of what is written on the web is in English. I think that is because Steven Jobs, Bill gates, and a lot of the other people who worked so hard to make the internet a people friendly place speak English. EvEn a lot of the treaties between non English speaking countries are written in English. I am amazed every day at how well people from different countries can read and write English. Yes, English is becomin the international language.

Yes whether we like it or not, English is becoming the international language. Books are written in English, English is taught in many schools in the world. International trade and commerce use English and in order to be competitive in today's world, one should know English. The British and also the Americans have a great influence due to their colonozation or many countries in Asia.

i think Chinese should be the next language we should all learn as a second language..cos i see China as the next world superpower with a huge trade surplus..not being biased but with over 1.4 billion speaking Mandarin..i think it is quite useful..

I don't know about making it the world language but it seems to be heading that way. We can't even make it our national language here in the states. Drives me crazy that all over the world people learn English but in America they do all they can to cater to the hispanic population.

I'm sorry I feel that I may have come across as insulting to the hispanic population. Please know that my husband is 1/2 Puerto Rican and 1/2 Belgian. I have nothing against hispanics. If I did I wouldn't marry one!!

English is an international language....Don't try to fly into any airport if you are a pilot has to be able to speak and understand english to fly a plane and all flight comtrollers have to speak english in order to land a plane..The American decided to make our language english when we founded this country....Even though Ben Franklin tried to make it German and it didn't pass......But he is also the one that wanted the Turkey to be our national bird.. That's why it upsets me so much when people come here and want us to use their language instead of ours....If I was living in their country I would try at least to speak theirs.....But since I'm in the United States I wish you would try to learn mine....

I guess you can say that. English is needed in many countries these days. I think you are also pretty accuarate as to why English is popular in many countries. I didn't know it was so important overseas since I am from USA and grew up with the English language.

From the moment I attended school, it was my impression that English is the recognized international language. This is heightened as I get to be attending the higher levels of education. To know that the Americans and the British are the ones with the wield of influence throughout the world, got me more convinced.

It is important to learn English as a second language. It is also the medium of communication used in most schools here in the Philippines because our education system was patterned after the U.S. when Americans occupied our country in the 1900's. However, that doesn't mean that we should forget our own native language.
