You should probably call the local ASPCA and let them know what is happening, and how long it's been since the owner has neglected that poor horse. That is animal cruelty, and no animal should be treated that way. By the way...welcome to Mylot. I checked your profile and saw that you just became a member. Hope you like it here.

sorry, my post was'nt worded properly, the horse is'nt neglected. in fact he's probably in his glory, we have horses of our own and plenty of help with them. (3 sons & 2 daughters) but my problem is that the "owner" has taken zero responsibility for her animal! thanks!

I figured that's what was going on. But it is still neglect on the owner's part. Good for you stepping up and taking care of the horse. Kudos to you. It's a relief to know that he is being loved.

I believe that you should report her to the humane society for animal abuse. If it doesn't work take her to court and sue her.

Bad situation for you as I can see that you have been taking care of this animal and not you feel responsible for it ...maybe get a small claims order for her to pay the back board owed and that will get her attention ...maybe then she will contact you and do something about the situation ... who knows if you do go to court maybe the judge will just award you the horse along with the owed board ...good luck

WowSome people just do not deserve to own such animals when they are not willing to care for them.. That poor horse left there on his own. Thankfully he has you thats been kind enough to care for him and give him food and water. If I was you I would contact the correct animal authorities in your area, then hopefully you will be given the all clear to keep him, sell him or what ever you want to do with him. Just love horses too! They are such beautiful intelligent animals. Lynn-Marie

I would call the RSPCA and find out what you can do as to wheather you can claim it as your own or sell it. It sounds like your family has got quite attached to the horse and seeing as youve been paying for its care for so long it should now be yours and she should have no claim to it unless she is going to repay all the money for its care back to you, i dont think that she deserves to have it back.

As sandgroper1 mentioned, maybe there's a way you can claim it. Maybe there's a way you can state she hasn't pay and you're going to keep the horse as pay. Try contacting your local SPCA and authorities on the situation.
