Anthropogenic global warming ?

"This most recent Marshall Institute review of scientific evidence on climate change confirms the earlier conclusion that predictions of an anthropogenic global warming have been greatly exaggerated, and that the human contribution to global warming over the course of the 21st century will be less than one degree Celsius and probably only a few tenths of a degree. Spread over a century, a temperature rise of this magnitude will be lost in the noise of natural climate fluctuations." The quote above is extracted from an article concerning whether or not humankind is causing global warming and if so, by how much. It is complete with references to real scientific papers and actual measurement data of the earth's temperature. Here is the url: http://www.marshall.org/subcategory.php?id=26 Read, ponder, and please reply here to the question,"How real is anthropgenic global warming?" Please, include why you believe what you do.

You should read the IPCC report. It forms a consenus from thousands of scientists and gives the definitive answer to this subject. For those who can't be bothered to read it the answer is that it is deemed most probable that warming is caused by human activity. Don't waste your energy argueing over if its caused by humans. The time is now for us to all focus and unite our efforts on a solution.

It took some time, but finally I have found a 21 page summary of the most recent IPCC report. I have not thoroughly digested it, yet. It is a serious scientific report and it does take me several times going over something like this to fully appreciate it. That does not mean I have not picked up enough to be of use in our current discussion. First, here is what you said about the IPCC report, "For those who can't be bothered to read it the answer is that it is deemed most probable that warming is caused by human activity." No, that's not quite right. The report says it is certain that global warming has a discernible human influence. Well, sure, of course. The essence of the IPCC report as I have extracted it essentially is not in disagreement with my position that global warming is not man made. I really suggest you read the report again, check out the charts very carefully, and parse the words of the report very carefully. By now, I'm sure most of you must think I'm crazy. Afterall, did I not say the report made it clear that it was certain global warming has a discernible human influence? How is that interpreted as to mean humans are not causing global warming? Simple. First, remember that the people writing the report are incredibly intelligent and understand much better than most the meaning of words. How many of you really know the meanings of the words "discernible" and "influence"? Once you look these words up and reread that sentence, you can see that the report could also mean something like this: Using the best and most high tech precision measuring instruments we are able to absolutely detect that man has affected the current trend in global warming. Not that global warming would not still be going on without man's influence, but it is slightly worse because of man. We can tell this because of the high degree of accuracy of modern measuring technology. In other words, "It is certain that global warming has a discernible human influence." But.. but... but... they did not mean that! Yes, they did. The words were chosen very carefully. These are scientists of exceptional intelligence well versed and practiced in vocabulary and even more experienced in discovering ways of getting into the public purse to fund their projects. Thank-you for recommending the IPCC report. It is useful and I do recommend it, just as you do. However, I caution people read it carefully. I recommend the following for you: UNSTOPPABLE GLOBAL WARMING: Every 1500 Years, by Dennis T. Avery and S. Fred Singer

I believe man is playing a bigger part in the "warming" than the "experts" are willing to let on red!! Yes they give us these "facts" (information put to us by the ones saying it is not happening), edited to suit the arguement they are putting forward. I live in hope, and hope that they are right, but experiencing the changes and seeing the effcts of weather change globally, which is hugely different to anything I have witnessed in my lifetime, I hold strong reservations that mankind is more responsible than "their" facts let on! Gut feeling over facts presented!! Should I hold the "facts" they choose to present as "gospel" and go back to being an osterich, "head in the sand" trick??? I listen to others putting forward their points of view and find it hard to dismiss their thoughts!

I am confused, Eagle. Here in America the "experts" are loud in proclaiming that man is playing a big part in global warming. Those of us who think man is pretty much insignificant in the matter are pretty much ignored except to attract scorn. Anyway, the issue has certainly attracted a lot of scientific attention and I am sure more facts will be uncovered in due course. Keep well.

LOL... Well, if your reincarnated self has knowledge of its past lives, then you have been right for centuries.

I do not doubt that the earth is going through a warming phase. There is too much evidence from melting polar ice to sea temperature rise to deny this. The question is whether man has a hand in this or there other contributing factors. I, personally think that man's contribution is negligible but do not have the fact at hand to support my conclusion.

There are plenty of facts at the url listed at the beginning of the thread. The most convincing is the determination of relative CO2 levels and the resulting temperatures of the earth in times past. When this is extrapolated to current levels of CO2 and where they are likely to go in the immediate future, slight warming is indeed forecast. However, this realistic forecast of global warming is not for a catastrophic outcome.

I think there is global warming- how else can youe explain why the ice bergs are melting and the weird weather everywhere, supposively it will take centuries to resolve the issue.

Yes, global warming is going on. The arguement is about whether it is manmade, whether we can do anything about it, and how serious of a problem is it?

How man can survive in hot weather? It's sourcing heat. You feel the heat burning your skin. I will get heat stroke if I get out at this hour - 12 noon to 2 pm.

As it happens it is much easier to survive in warmer weather as opposed to colder weather. Shade is easier to come by than shelter. Growing seasons for food are much longer where it is warm.
