How do you stay calm when life is manic?

It might sound funny but I have learnt to completely switch myself off! I just block out absolutely everything that is going on around me and I try to prioritise in my head things that need sorting and that is when I start to just work on each item in my mental list one at a time without letting anything else in. Sounds strange I know but it works for me and 9 times out of 10 stops me from going completely potty!

99% of the time I am calm. I am hard to rile up, but when I am I do not even bother trying to stay calm. I let it out and allow it to pass. This is how I remain level 99% of other times. :)

I hop in the car and drive away, down to the beach alone or somewhere that no one will be bothering me!

I take some 'me' time by removing myself from everyone else, reading a good book, listening to some soothing music and relaxing as much as possible. When I am feeling more relaxed and restored, then I return to the fray in the hope that whatever the problem is, that is has been sorted out in my absence. LOL

I'm not always successful, but I try to take a moment and several deep breaths, and try to regain my focus on the big picture. So much of the craziness really ends up being small and unimportant. My husband is big on saying W.I.N. - What's important now?

I used to completely switch myself off when I felt under pressure and would force myself to work even harder to block out the stress I was feeling, but time after time it resulted in me becoming run down and ill. So now I meditate daily, just as a way to cleanse my mind, and when I feel the pressure in my life building up, I remember to breathe. It sounds corny, but I stop what I am doing, and return my attention and my focus to my breath just for 20 seconds or so, doing this helps me to return to a calm state of mind and helps to put things into perspective, then I continue with whatever I was doing.
