Would you go back?

I got a trial membership at a nationwide fitness center, the gym I guess. I drug myself in there at 6am with the best intentions, lose the 10 lbs of baby fat, get more energy, be healthy. So I walk up to the counter and the girl behind it goes "Do you have a doctors release?" and I said "for what" and this girl looks at me like I am the biggest idiot to walk through the doors and says " so you can work out in your condition." Keep in mind it's early, I'm in sweats and a tshirt and I asked "what is my condition?" She looked at my tummy and says "the baby?" I couldn't believe it!! All I could do was utter "OMG, you're ignorant" and left. So I sat in the parking lot thinking about whether to go back in and noticed all these thin, spandex clad, smiling people going in and decided this was obviously not the place for me. Some of them were actually wearing makeup! To the gym! I think I'll stick to workout tapes in the dead of night when no one can see me. LOL Has anything like this ever happened to you? I'm not even that overweight, only 10 lbs, it just so happens to be around my tummy. AAAHHHHGGGG!! The frustration!! LOL

Wow that was rude. I had a membership to a fitness club, but I hated it. I felt like everyone was watching me and I felt really uncomfortable. I could never use the machines that I wanted and like you said, here I am 10 or so pounds overweight and they have these skinny chicks, who probably dont eat working there or working out. after I spent over a thousand dollars on my membership and worked out there for about a year I quit. I could not take the pressure anymore. So I now have weights at home, a ball, treadmill, and workout tapes. It worked out better for me this way.

It's why I stick to gardening or yard work, whatever. It's a lot healthier than than being indoors with a lotta sweaty people.

OH! i would have flipped! i would have sought out a manager and made a HUGE scene and then proceded to exit never to return again. i've never had a problem at any gym i go to. they're all filled with sweaty, stinky people just like me! maybe you aren't going to the "right" place. have you checked out a local YMCA or Gold's Gym? those are my two old gyms. i loved the YMCA. there were activities for kids, there were old people in there and who doesn't love that! ANYONE can shine when they're pumping iron next to granny and pap! :) i found gold's was always filled with beefy body builders that made nice eye candy while on the treadmill and any made up spandex wearing chicas were so obvious they were just there to be "seen" that no on paid them one bit of attention. get a buddy and find the right gym...you'll be glad you did and feel sooo much better! seriously, if there's a Y in your area...check it out...pool, weights, classes, gymnasiums!! FUN!

Thanks Joey! The Y just happens to be on my way to work, so Icalled them. Membership for the whole family was a fraction of what this other place was! Definately may check it out. Thanks again!

I tried Tan N Tone because my back is bad and my doctor said this would be the best place for me to join. They always had nice people there to help.

Sometimes it seems those fitness clubs are only for the fit which means they're all youngsters in their 20s. Not for me.

The spitfire in me says, "Go back! You look darn good and don't let anyone tell you different!" The female in me says oh, lord, that was rude and embarassing and don't ever feel you have to prove something by going back. Whatever the problems, I'm just glad you are a better person than she is. I might have filed a complaint with her manager!

Ok, I don't mean to be mean but I recall recently making the mistake of thinking a woman I know was pregnant but all she said is No, I'm just fat. So who was mortified? Me.
