Not knowing your pregnant?

Newborn baby pops up out of nowhere? - How could you not know?

I have heard this story before as well I know some of you have, but how could you be pregnant and not know? Aren't there like some tell tale signs that something just isn't quite right? I mean come on what do you think you have the flu for the first 3 months that your pregnant? Or ok assume you didn't get morning sickness, you think that baby moving around in there kicking you are just gas pains? Can people really be that ignorant? or are they really just that naive? Another assumption that I have come to do people not want to acknowledge that they actually are pregnant? Do you know someone that this has happened to? What did you say? Did you ask them how in the heck did they never know? I'm really curious as to how this can happen.

I had this friend in high school, whose mom never knew she was pregnant with her. She was in high school when she got pregnant and she continued to have her period throughout the entire pregnancy. She said she did feel slightly sick when she first got pregnant but she took a pregnancy test and it was negative so she just thought she was sick. She never took another pregnancy test because she was no longer sexually active, she didn't consider the fact that it could have just been too soon when she took the last test. She only gained 5-10 pounds the whole time she was pregnant. When her daughter was born, she weighed 4 lbs 7 oz, and was approximately 8 weeks early. She didn't even realize she was in labor. She just thought she needed to poop. And she went into the bathroom and started bleeding everywhere and realized she was having a baby. Her dad called 911 and then delivered the baby while they were waiting for the ambulance. Her baby (my friend) spent the first 4 weeks of her life in the hospital. It was a miracle she lived, especially considering she was born at home. My friend's mom told all of us the story because she wanted to make sure that it didn't happen to us when we were in high school.

Well thats quite a story and its sad that it happens but I have to believe that women have some clue of whats going on if you've ever been pregnant then you know what I'm talking about, you can't go the whole nine months and just not know.

I have no idea how people do not know they are pregnant. I knew I was pregnant and the pregnancy tests came back negative. I just felt different. I told my husband and he did not believe me. Some people do continue to have a period somehow. I agree that sometimes the reason people do not know that they are pregnant is because they do not want to be. They are to selfish and will not acknowledge the fact that there is life inside of them and they need to take care of themselves. I guess some people just think that they are gaining weight at a rapid pace. You could see the baby moving in my stomach. Do people think there is an alien in them or how do they explain it. I think pure ignorance is a big part of this. I would love to meet someone that this happened to and ask them all kinds of questions. My brothers girlfriend didn't find out until she was about 3 months pregnant. My husband is amazed at the fact that I new right away. He tells everyone that I knew I was pregnant when we conceived.

I didn't know I was pregnant till my 3rd month. I never got sick and the only reason I found out was I had went to my dr because of side pain and she thought perhaps it could be a cyst on my ovary so she scheduled me for an ultraound for my ovary.... I didn't have a cyst but I did find out I had a baby in there instead! I was never sick during my pregnancy so I have no idea when I would have realized I was pregnant had I not had that ultrasound. I am sure it wouldn't have been long after though because I did show really good and he was a very active boy!

i knew a girl in college that this happened to her frind. i couldn't beleive it. she never knew she was pregnant and one night she started having pains went to the hospital and gave birth. i thought you seriously have to be clueless to never know your pregnant. you really can't be paying attention to your body at all.

I dont understand eather. Having been pregnant 3 times, with a near 3 year old and one coming in a few months, i fail to understand how people cant realize they are pregnant. My mother in law had her period for 4 months, every 4 weeks like clockwork while pregnant with my husband. But she knew all along she was pregnant. I lost my first baby, i was several weeks late, knew i was pregnant, and lost the baby. The bleeding for that is much different from a period bleeding. I was terribly sick with my first son, there was NO mistaking that symptom. With this baby, i felt him early and knew that it was the baby, now he pokes limbs out all the time, and there is no mistaking that. Honestly no gas bubbles makes your stomach poke out in one area then go back in, and do it many times over. There was an overweight woman who claimed she never knew she was pregnant. She said she never felt the baby move, didnt know she was in labor, and had an 11 lb son. My first was 10 lbs, there was no way i couldent know i was pregnant. I cant fanthom that being 50 lbs overweight makes that much of a difference. I was 20 lbs overweight when i got pregnant with this baby.. and i still knew.

I have wondered about that, too. I have had 4 children and in the last couple of months it is unmistakable that it is a baby moving in there. I can see maybe not knowing for the first 5 or 6 months but those last few you just have to know something is not right. But I think by then they are in denial and refuse to even think about it. It is easier to say you had no clue then to admit you knew you were pregnant but didn't see a doctor because you didn't want to be pregnant. I saw one of those medical incredible shows and a girl was in college and was working one night and started getting stomach cramps so she went home and laid down. A couple hours later she woke up in intense pain and thought she was dying. A few minutes later she started giving birth in her dorm room all by herself. She finally was able to call a friend who came over and helped her get to a hospital. She said she had no clue she was pregnant. She was a big girl but even overweight people feel the baby move. I was almost 100lbs over weight when my last baby was born and you could definitely tell I was pregnant and I could feel the baby move. I just don't get it.

I'm not talking about kicking. I could feel the baby if it was rolling around. Even my 9lb son moved around up until he was born. I would be laying there and my whole stomach would move in a wave as he rolled over, or whatever it was he was doing. My oldest used to get her feet up under my ribs and push. I thought she was going to break them at one point and I could see her little fit pushing through the skin. It was creepy. I gave her foot a little shove and the snot kicked me back, right in the ribs. It hurt too. I finally had to move around until she fell into a different position but she spent most of the last month with her feet in my ribs--I could barely breath. These people that don't realize they are pregnant must have very placid babies. All of mine moved around a ton and they liked to do little dances on my bladder, lol. I wonder what they think when they suddenly need to pee every 10 minutes?

I know a girl who is due March 2 & said she didn't know she was pregnant until Thanksgiving. But I kind of believe her because she was having some ulcers & other stomach problems, so when she had an ultrasound done the first time, last September they could not see the baby due to her stomach problems.

This is something of a mystery to me as well..being a mother of two children..I defanatley knew I was pregnant all along. BUT...my best friend has a 22 month old son that was not expected at all. She work that night, went home in incredible pain (labour) thinking that she was passing kidney stones or something, called 911 after she couldn't handle it anymore. Went to the hospital, they did a ultrasound on her stomache to see what the source of the pain was. Low and behold, she was 36 weeks pregnant and in labour with a 7 pound baby boy. :S Its crazy...I dont understand it at all. How on earth do you not know. :O

This happened to my niece. She was only 13 when she got pregnant. Her situation isn't a good one, she was raped and the guy is facing 30 years in prison. She had the child about 2 months early, she didn't notice any weight gain and I honestly didn't either. She was naturally big. Her cycle was screwed up because of what this man did to her. She told me she really didnt' feel any movement. So it can happen I guess. It all depends on the person as well. With my first I got the normal 3 month morning sickness. But before that kicked in I had horrible cramps, nothing like with pms. So I had early signs. With my 2nd, I didn't get sick at all, but I had trouble gaining weight. I would eat everything in site, but only gained 17 lbs. I miscarried before having my last child. I didn't know I was pregnant, because I missed a period which I have done then had it that following month just a bit heavier. Didn't think anything of it, til I gushed blood (sorry to be graphic). So I went to the doctor and was told I miscarried. Stress can cause your body to react to things in different ways. So some women aren't ignorant or naive, it can happen. I just think that it can be a gift from God or one heck of a cruel joke, depends on the situation.

I'm very sorry for your neice and her situation that is a very sad circumstance and in a situtation like that then there is a good possiblity that she wouldn't know also being how young she was. That guy needs to rot for doing something like that to a child I hope he gets the full 30 years!!

I saw it on the news, a little while back. A lady thought that she was just gaining weight, etc. It was so strange how she did not know that she was pregnant, I agree with you. It was so strange when I saw her there, on the TV, saying that she never knew that she was pregnant, until she went into the hospital to know what was wrong with her, and found out that she was going to have a baby. Also, she had her period the entire time. It was just too strange. Sometimes, we are just removed from our bodies, that we just don't know what is going on, but sometimes, it is just too much to believe.

I myself had my first child without anyone else knowing, I was 19, I had my period the whole time and I didn't show, I suspected but never had it confirmed. I had gone and gotten the family medical book and read about it. I still lived at home with my parents and they didn't even suspect anything until the night before I went into labor. I had broken up with my boyfriend (because he had cheated on me) he didn't even know about the baby until she was a week old, the first thing he said to me was, "why didn't you have an abortion?", but that's a whole other discussion. I understand how some people may not know for sure, but there's usually some indication that something is different. I worked with a girl who didn't know she was pregnant either, she had boys and was pregnant with a girl and said she didn't feel the same way, she just felt sick a little, she thought t was like a flu, then it stopped, when she went into labor she had just eaten chili and thought it was indigestion.

Yeah it happened also with a girl in my comunnity. She have no idea that she were pregnant and keep doing everything , like walking till drop, shopping, lifting heavy stuff everything. Nobody noticed it. But like 2 days earlier my mom talked to my sister like " is she pregnant ? " my sister said " No, she is not. Nothing wrong with her mom ". she replied " Do you how her body is not right, every part of her bodys really skinny how come just her belly big. Just like pregnant woman. " my sister kept insist that that girl not pregnant. And 2 days after that my ex bf told me that the girl is in hospital right now. she delivered the baby at home with her friends help. I said O Mai GOD !!! how come .... when Sunday came, all of us went to her house just visiting her. She said that she had that pain since 4:30 in the morning and she tought she want poop but she couldn't. so around 11 am, she had the pain again and BOOM here we go the baby. In my mind she is knowing it when she's pregnant. but she not going to talk to everybody kind of embarrased her. also she is knowing it also " how old " the baby was . 6 months and 3 weeks. If she's not noticed it, how come ?

My friend was on the contraceptive pill and accidentally got pregnant. She says she took it properly so they think it was just one of those cases where the pill was ineffective one day she only found out she was pregnant when she went to the doctors about her heartburn. it was something she always kind of had but had got alot worse and they asked her other various questions about her health and decided to a urine test but she said when she was doing the sample that she thought it was all so pointless cos there was no way she was pregnant. she was 3 months at the time and not in a serious enough relationshipp so now she is bringing up the child herself. she had a terrible time of it though. she felt really ashamed telling people she was pregnant and she was scared people would think she was daft getting herself pregnant. she does say obviously there was more she could have done to ensure she didnt fall pregnant but when your taking the pill you never think it could happen to you.

Ok I understand that some women have their periods while being pregnant and that has been said to me a lot during this discussion, but there are other signs that pop up and I'm sure they would raise some red flags and make you think that something isnt quite right.

I would like to agree with you to an extent... I mean i have a girlfriend and we are actually concerned of not wanting to get pregnant at this early age ... we did and do keep track of every single symptoms that might assure us about pregnancy .... specially if one is really having S** regularly i would think that it is easy to keep that thing in mind... specially nowadays we have so many sources to test the results... i think you surely do have a point here

My friend did not find out she was pregnant until she was 20 weeks. She had been unwell, done a pregnancy test (came up negative), and had even been to the doctor. The doctor had told her she was having liver problems and to stop drinking. She didn't find out she was pregnant until she was really unwell one night and was taken to the emergency room. I think its time for her to find a new doctor!

it happened to me. When i founded out that i was pregnant- I was already pregnant for 7 months. There are more reasons why pregnancy was ruled out for me- 1. after my last contact, which i believe was done in my safe zone (rhythm method) I had a period for an entire month..(august) then by sept-nov i had missed periods 2. I took a pregnancy test just before going to the gynecologist just to be sure i wasnt pregnant- and it cam out negative. 3. I attributed my missed periods due to my depression that time and the stress i have from work. which according to some people (doctors and nurses i have talked to) was possible to happen. 4. NO movements, NO morning sickness, NO other probable/presumptive signs of pregnancy until late december when i started to feel some VERY OCCASIONAL thumping like only once or twice to thrice a day, and i was alarmed because i never did have that kind of feeling before in my abdomen. besides the most efficient way of confirming pregnancy is through ultrasound- so when i had that- then it was confirmed. This stuff really happens and you could never blame the mom specially if she wasn't expecting having a baby at that point of time and if she's currntly under a lot of stress, its not like they didnt have the effort to at least find out for themselves if they were actually pregnant, like me- I did a pregnancy test to confirm but it came out negative, I did research on my missed periods and it wasnt indicative of pregnancy, I asked medical practitioners regarding my case- they say its possible that i might only have amenorrhea because of the stress at work. I did do my part, it just took me a while to finally see a gynecologist since i was working and i didnt have that much free time back then.
