Does your pet have a nickname?

Duncan and Don Juan - Duncan and Don Juan as kittens.

Do you have another name for your pet? Something that you call your pet that isn't their name? I have 4 cats and they all have nicknames. Terra's nickname is "bits-sa". (Don't ask me how or why we call her that, lol, that's just what we call her.) Don Juan we call "big boy". (He was the bigger of the brothers.) Duncan we call "Dunky". (He's the smaller of the brothers, and still is the smallest cat we have.) Max we call "little one" because he is the youngest. (Max has grown to be the same size as Juan.) So does your pet have a nickname?

We have one cat and her name is Keeley. An old roommate of mine would call her Keeley Jo and one day it evolved to Keeley Jones and it stuck. I also call her Boo Boo and she responds to it.

No one can replace your Buttons. But it will help the pain to have a new kitten. I'm glad your vet is helping you. Giving a home to a healthy stray will be a very good thing. Losing Buttons will still hurt, but you will have a kitten to laugh with. We will enjoy helping you pick a new kitty's name. Hugs from, Carol

I have a dog and her name is Missy. However, I generally call her baby girl because she is soo sweet! My dad calls her queenie because she thinks she is. she answers to all of them..lol I have called her "baby girl" since I first got her at 5 weeks. She is a very well behaved dog and just really sweet natured. She will bark and growl at strangers, but If I don't react to them she will run up to them and want them to pet her. I have to keep a close eye on her outside as she is people friendly and I am afraid she will follow someone home. So since I look out for her, I guess might be part of the reason why I call her baby girl.

Sounds to me like she is your baby girl. Don't let her wander off. She sounds wonderful.

i have a snake named trish, i never gave her a nickname when she was still with me but when i send her to a friend they started calling her tiny. she is an eighteen feet burmese python. i asked them why they call her tiny besides the fact that she is a huge snake. they said its that people who will hear her name would get intrested to see her when they hear her name but will get scared when they see her.

That is so funny that you have a cat named Terra. That is my name (except I spell it different). Lets see, I definitely have nicknames for all of my cats, I always have. There is Dizzi and I call her Izzy, Chatterbox (she never shuts up lol) and Dizzi Doo. Thumper gets called Thumper Dumper, Thumpy Dumpy, Thumper Doo, Thumper Marie when she is being bad (all my cats have middle names-don't ask-they are my babies-lol). Alvin is Alvin Michael when he is bad or ignoring me, Mahmah most of the time (that is the sound he makes when he meows, he whispers instead of meowing) and Little Man. Shadoe was doedoe for the longest time (she isn't too bright-lol) and then she got pregnant and I started calling her Tubby and Prego, now that she has given birth I call her mommy. Her babies' names are nicknames, none of them are staying when they are old enough to go. There are: Stripe, Socks, Bear and Lazy. There is also Flower but my sister named her because that is the one she is taking. Well I think I have rambled on enough. :)

LOL Thanks for sharing all your nicknames. My 4 kitties are my babies too. I haven't given my cats middle names, but I understand why you would. They need full names. :)

Wow I thought I was the only one with a nickname for my dog. Her name is Bandit and I call her my bandito frito. My husband calls her old blue tick flea hound. Go figure. Either way she is my buddy and I love her.

I have two cats. The big 9 year old is called bugger. He ignores you unless he wants something. He is a long hair 16 pound big boy. The little girl tortie, we call trouble. And let me tell you, that is exactly what she is. She gets into everything and turns it upside down. But so loving. Nice post. I am rating you for it a +.

Thanks for responding to my post. Bugger sounds like my female cat - ignores you unless she wants something. Our youngest cat, Max, likes to get into trouble, too. He likes to go places he's not supposed to be. And he ignores me when I tell him off. lol

We truly tend to "rename" all our pets by some of their actions. It's funny. We call one of our "fat cats" Princess Poomp as she thinks she's just the fancy pants of the house! LOL Another one's name is "Smokey" but my little nephews called him Pokey for the longest time that we now call him Pokey sometimes. LOL

It is really funny that our animals pretty much respond to what we call them, like they know that we are talking to them. Although sometimes I call one cat and they all (9 at the moment-4 when the babies go home to their new mommies and daddies) come running.

lol first, wow loads of responses! i wonder if you will get to mine! yes, i nickname most of my pets, completely unintentional :) Annabella is called Swissy, i got Swissy because one day i sid hi sissy, but i slurred and said Swissy. lol Angel, my dear Angel was Beetle Eyes. he got that becasue his eyes look like little beetles were in them. that and he some times got bug eyed lol Kally is LunaBug- honestly it took time for this to come develpoe i read this book series called Cataluna Chronicles by RL Stine and so i called her Cataluna then since i called her brother Beetle Eyes, i just tagged on the "bug" to Luna, and wala! Cuddles got renamed Kung-Fu Cuddles when she chased my giant yellow lab around the house, and how she protects her kits from the car and protects her role of supream queen of the farm lol. sometimes they got nicknames from cutey ways of saying their names. Kimiko-Miss Timmy Toe (and Rusty Toe becuz one foot is orange) Ezzie-Bezzie Sylvester-Sibby, or just Sibs Brock- Bock-a-poo Caridee-CareBear, deedee, CareCare Pia-PeePee Lizzie-LizBiz and the dogs, dont really know all reasons why... Yep, our dog Magnus is Maggie or Nippy Nose (his nose is always so cold), and our cat Rowan even has a song sung to the tune of "Rice a Roni, the San Francisco treat." We've changed it to "Roaster Roonie, the girly girly fille". How silly is that!

Hi! We have three dogs... Onslo, our black lab, we call Ubu because he looks like that dog at the end of some shows where the announcer says "Sit Ubu, sit. Good dog." He responds to Ubu, too. LOL Then we have an Australian Shepherd, Grainger, is nicknamed "Stinky" because when we originally got him, he smelled horribly. I mean, it was awful! Finally, there's Sparky, our rottweiler/german shepherd mix. He is the baby of the house and was abused before we got him. He tends to be skittish at times, but demands a lot of attention from his "people." He "scents" us so the other dogs know we belong to him and not the other dogs. Anyway, we nicknamed him Count Sparkula or we cal him Sparkums. He's really hyper and loves it when we talk to him. He talks back by howling or making a noise that is very close to a cat's purring. I love my three boys!

It seems that nicknames are just names that pop out at some point. some nicknames have a reason, but many don't seem to.
