I know some people spend their time reading the dictionary as though they are reading a book. Sometimes, I do that for fun too. Do you?

well I am a very book addicted but I think I have never read a dictionary like a book!!! I like using dictionary because I like studying languages and I like widen my language abilities...I use very much the Italian dictionary, too because I think that if we want to use our language properly we have to deeply study it..and I like my language, too ..of course I use dictionaries when studying foreign languages..in this case I like reading the pages dedicate to building vocabulary...I find them very useful for me and I enjoy them even more if they are full of pictures and drawings that help us memorise

Hi, and yes I think images can help one to remember things easily. I like a dictionary with pictures too. Looks bright and colourful and also makes learning fun.

I used to read when I'm eating too but now I only read the newspapers when I'm eating. It's difficult to hold the book and eat at the same time!

No ,I seldom start reading the dictionary, although I do believe I have done it a time or two. One thing I do have is a bookmark for dictionary.com at the top of my web browser. I use it frequently to check on the spelling of words and also to check the meaning of new words .

Only when I come across a word that I can't figure out the meaning of. Typically, there are context clues to decypher the definition of a word, but if it's something so obscure or archaic that even the clues are out of my lexicon, i turn to Noah Webster. One day, I'll purchase a complete set of the Oxford English Dictionary, but that ain't in the budget for a few years.

The complete set? I think there'll never be a complete set because Oxford keep adding new words. I always rely on my ever faithful Oxford Advanced Learners' Dictionary but there aren't always all the words that I need to know. I also check for the meaning of some words online if I can't it in my dictionary. I've never heard of Noah webster before. I'll check it out soon. Thanks.

Well, you can get a pocket dictionary which is small and compact. My friend used to bring a pocket dictionary to school everyday and whenever we need a dictionary, we'd know where to get it. From her. Haha!

I don't read it like a novel but I do try to read at least one new word a day. I sometimes read the same word more than once but it takes more than once for me to really learn the new word. I also get the dictionary when my daughter asks what word means and then we read it together. I think it is important for her to learn about dictionaries and how usefull they are.

Wow, that's good. At least you are learning new words everyday. Yeah, I have the same problem too. I tend to forget a new word at times and I would have to check back the dictionary. Dictionaries are good for students and they should make it a habit to look it up when they come across an unfamiliar word. It helps in their writing.
