New Zealand fishermen have caught what is expected to be a world-record-breaking colossal squid. http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/2/hi/asia-pacific/6385071.stm That's a lot of calamari! Seriously though, stories such as these make me wonder about the old tales of sea monsters and serpents. If there really was a lot more truth to them than we give credit to....

Wow, what a beautiful creature and such a pretty colour too! I think a lot of the old stories were probably true but as we got better at Fishing creatures simpley never got the chance to grow to full size. What a magnicicent catch, I would have had to let the por thing go. Thank-you so much for sharing this.

You're welcome, and thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I too wish the poor creature did not have to die. Makes you wonder though, what is living deep in our oceans beyond the fishing nets. Cheers!

I saw this and my husband brought home the info to show our son who loves these type of things. At first he thought it was fake like the one on "Pirates of the Carribian", but once we told him it was realy he got really exited.

WOW it's quite big. I have heard about a giant squid that found near NZ too (i didn't remember it too well, because i heard that several years ago). Now it's a bigger squid than before. WOW that's really big, but there is something bother me. why it's red? i'm trying to find the scientific reason here.
