Anyone else had this kind of problem?

Ok, most of you know that I write for Associated Content. And that a lot of what I write (both here and there) is about my faith. I also make sure to do all the little bookmark thingies for all my articles. Today I was going back and looking through the comments I've gotten on all of these bookmarking sites, and I noticed something peculiar. On most of the sites, I got the same mixture of good and bad comments. A few insults, but mainly notes of encouragement or honest responses. One site stuck out though. On digg.com I got overwhelmingly negative responses including the note "take your religious crap back to your church where it belongs." So, I'm wondering... Is digg just a primarily anti-Christian community, or am I being targeted by a few loud-mouths who have no concept of manners? Has anyone else had problems like this with digg?

I may be wrong, this is just what i'm assuming. But because digg is generally more science/technology heavy there is also a larger amount of people there who are more science geared. Now not all, or maybe evenmost, but a lot of peopel who are more science geared tend to push away religion. So there may just be a higher percentage of people at digg who are not interested in religion or faith. Anyway, just my two cents.

That does make a lot of sense. Probably a lot of athiests and agnostic types there. I'm new to AC and don't know much about Digg. Can someone explain the connection between the two?

You aren't going to get any sympathy from me. I too am sick of people moralizing and judging others a because of their lack or religious beliefs. There are justtoo many people on the internet doing this. People get tired of always hearing the same thing about how they are going to hell if they don't believe a specific belief. Manners goes two ways, think how rude you sometimes seem to people who don't believe what you do, perhaps its time you found another topic besides religion to talk about.

Wow -- why do you presume that I am judging anyone? I intentionally address my posts to Christians. They're about leading a Christian life, so they really don't apply to non-believers at all. Last I heard I am free to discuss any topic I like here. Or have the rules somehow changed?

I don't get it either. I don't think I have ever seen a discussion made by a Christian that says people are going to hell for not believing and if I was a non Christian I would not even respond to those. That's what I do if I see something related to another belief.

I'm with you Lucy, but it seems some folks just get hot under the collar if you even mention God. Shouldn't be all that surprised I guess, but I always am!

I think it could be either one or both - loud mouths and, as one poster said, Digg is primarily a community of tech and science oriented people. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Look at it this way: At least they're reading you. And who knows? Maybe your material will plant a seed that will spring to life at some later date.

I agree with peavey big time. You could be planting seeds. I can't remember the number now, but they say there are a certain number of times the average person hears the gospel before accepting it as truth. Some never accept it of course, but you never know how many people reading your material might be moved by it, even slightly. I'm glad to know AC will allow submissions on faith issues. That will give me a lot of material! Good luck to you.

Oh, yeah -- there's a whole subcategory for "religion"... Of course, what I post is usually more about beliefs and faith rather religion, but I don't really expect them to differentiate between the two.

I hope you're right about that last bit. "so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

I would have to read your religious articles to determine whether or not I thought the responses were anit or appropriate....but then again I don't want to read any religious hood-doo either..ha ha

I'm sorry... I just have to ask: Why are you reading this, then? Don't mean to cause a stir, but it doesn't make sense to me to hunt down topics you're opposed to for the purpose of saying so?

My guess would be it's the money factor... So many people post on discussions they have no interest in just because of the few cents they may earn... Unfortunate, but true.

I think that you are just being targeted by a few loud mouths and that digg is not against religion completely. You will find some people that are rude on just about every site on the internet so I would just try to ignore them. I have had people say some rude remarks to me on here and I ignored them. There are no communities that I am aware of that are completely against religion or someones beliefs so I think it is just a few people that are giving you problems.

Well, lets hope so. For now I'm choosing to just ignore them.

Please do ignore them! I'm sorry you've had to put up with this, but you know when we speak about our faith this happens. You must be doing something write if you're ruffling some feathers. I assume you know what I mean by that. ;)

I know exactly what you mean by that -- and thanks for the input! I hadn't actually thought of it that way, but you're probably right!!!

I write for AC too, but I've never herad of digg. Personally, I just don't read the comments. I don't need the negative energy and since I know that not everyone is going to agree with what I've written I just don't bother.

Good point. Maybe if you're going to read the comments you should pray about it first. Might help how you deal with the negative energy. Ask God to allow it to motivate you rather than frustrate you.

Digg is one of the little icons at the bottom of your posts that says "bookmark this". It's just a place to promote your articles.

Every good person who tries to do good to the society, has to face this type of problems. Jesus got crusified! So, I think you should ignore these people and keep on doing good things. You reap what you sow. Dont get disheartened. Even I dont respond to all your discussions with Bible verses, I read each one of them and I really appreciate your effort. Keep up the good work. May God Bless and protect you and yours.

Thanks sherinek, that's one of the best compliments I've gotten in a while! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the scripture posts. I'm having a ball writing them. Really, even if I never got a single response from any of them, I would still continue to post.

No I have never heard of digg, but the people responding do know what your discussions are about so therefore should not have tried to respond to your discussion at all this particular person must have a very negative mind so I would not worry about digg!! as it is that person that is making themselves look like they are athiest, and would like to spoil what your discussions about our Lord are. I love my lord and like reading other people discussions about their faith. God Bless you

I don't know to much about digg.com, but I wouldn't worry about it. You never know whose feathers you will ruffle whenever you write something. It could be here or anywhere. It always seems that a few obnoxious people try to disrupt things and condemn those with different beliefs. It doesn't matter if it is religion, politics or whatever.

It sounds like you got a response from a "loud-mouth who has no concept of manners".These sites are where we should learn about different subjects, religion is one of them. If digg is like mylot, the people who don't want to discuss religion, tgey don't have to.
