What would you be doing if the Internet didn't exist?

There is no doubt that the Internet has changed my life completely. Sometimes I wonder what I would do without it. I would certainly get more of other things done. More housework more regularly. And I'd get more writing done without distractions (I write romance). But I would not have met lots of lovely people that I call friends. I would not be communicating with them on almost a daily basis. And perhaps my writing wouldn't be as evolved as it is now because I have learnt so much from various writing sites. Where do you think you would be this moment if the internet didn't exist? And what would you be doing?

I would definitely be reading lots and lots of books. I love to read books, such as novel and short stories. I know it is kind of hard to imagine our life without internt. But without internet also we would do fine, with reading newspaper, books, watching TV etc. But now as we spend more and more time with internet, all other activites are getting less and less time from us. Good to know that you are a writer. Good Luck and happy writing!

For starters I would have read a lot more books, and would probably be in the middle of writing another one. I'd would get a little more exercise also, but I try and take care of that area by swimming three times a week. Have you had any of your romantic novels published? Finally, if I wasn't writibg this to you right now I would be taking a nap for sure.

Sunds like you have a life outside the Net and writing :) I have had soem short stories published and several writing-related articles, but alas I'm still waiting for the first book sale. At the moment, I have a book under consideration with a publisher in the USA. What do you write?

The internet is a wonderful way to meet new people, learn about different cultures and customs and make some friends that we would not normally know. It has changed the way we live in so many ways, but for some people it actually does take over their life and becomes their life. So far I haven't reached that stage, thankfully although I do know of a couple of people who have. The one thing I have made sure is that I still make time for every day things, like spending time with the family and friends. Reading every day for a while, doing some embroidery, although I do have to admit that I need new glasses to do the really fine needlework. There are the usual things of course, like housework but my husband and I share that so it isn't so bad. More than anything I spend time with our son, when he is not at work that is. I usually wait up till he gets home as he has been working some very "anti-social" hours, but he often wants to talk for a while after getting home and while having his meal. I might spend some time online while waiting for him, but generally I will read because I can see that if I started being on the internet all the time, it could become very much a bad habit. :)

Yes, it's become quite a habit for me. I used to sit and cross stitch - I was an avid cross stitcher - but since I took up writing, that has fallen by the wayside and since being on cable well my writing is suffering too. it's just too easy to be distracted. For example, I LOVE it here on MyLot but force myself to limit my time because I could happily be here for several hours a day!

I remember I used to have more time for things like crafts, cross stitching, cooking. Now I find that the internet is my social outlet and I am lost if I don't log on for a few days

Oh me too! I was an avid cross stitcher and t almost consumed my life. Since we got the internet I've barely touched a needle - in fact I haven't in the last 6 years!

Wow, great question! All I know is that I'd have SO mcuh free time and have to find something to do with it. I started getting into movies big time because of the internet so if I didn't have that I probabaly wouldn't love moies like I do now so life might be pretty boring. Not to mention the wonderful friends I've met online.

Yes, I imagine I'd have a LOT of hours to do lots of things I used to, but I do enjoy the Net and I love it here on MyLot. So distracting though...

Bunny2, I may be the only one stumped by this question. I cannot come up with an answer because I simply cannot imagine what I would be doing if the Internet didn't exist. I know it should sound crazy, but I've been on the Internet for so long, I just don't know what I would do without it:)

I do understand what you're saying. The Internet has become such a huge part of so many people's lives - who knows what we would be doing without it.

Great to see someone who can spell for a change, personally I can't handle text writing. I wanted to write novels but have never got around to it. I suppose really instead of spending numerous amounts of time on the internet I could have written a few novels. I had to give up my job because of numerous operations so I needed to find something else to do, so I have a few on line jobs that keep me occupied and I do all my banking etc over the internet and absolutely love it, so for me I really don't know what I would do but I suppose we wouldn't know what we were missing because it wouldn't exist.

Good point about spelling, Kiwikidz. There are so many threads on MyLot that I have been unable to reply to because I have no idea what they were talking about! I can usually work out discussions by people of different ethnic backgrounds, but some of the text writing is beyond me. And so distracting. Thanks for your reply.

I would probably be doing more housework, reading and knitting. I know one thing I would certainly be doing - that is paying much higher telephone bills. Since I spend about 6 months of the year in the UK away from my home in the USA I use the internet to keep in touch with my children and grandchildren on a daily basis. Can you imagine what a phone call to 9 different people every day would cost me. Thank heaven for the internet.

Without the internet, i wont be able to communicate regularly with my long time friends anymore. I would still need to use books to research on something.

yah internet is very essential now a days...without internet we will be again in the olden days...where we will waste so much of valuable time in doing personal needs like shopping, banking, work.. etc...also flirting, romance... IN MY OPINION 'WITHOUT INTERNET MEANS, THE LIFE OF A FISH WITHOUT WATER'

I'd probably be an author, by default, since I'd have read every book in the library. I actually wanted to be a writer, but discovered this little toy, and all is lost. ;~( I think its made me lazier and more stupid.

As a writer, I agree - the Internet is a HUGE distraction. But then it's a wonderful tool for finding information and approaching editors and publishers. Thanks for replying.

Oh wow..great question. What was I doing before the internet? I was raising a family for one thing. I worked using the old fashioned method of keeping books in a ledger, and paying bills with snail mail. I read more. I wrote letters more. I gardened more. I spent alot of time with my kids. But now I'm alone, so if my internet suddenly disappeared (like it did for 2 weeks during the recent ice storm in this area), I'd be missing it alot for a few days..pacing the floor and sitting and wondering what I'm going to do with myself..then gradually I'd get into more creative projects, like my jewelry making, and cooking for people, and just take up my old fashioned ways of communicating with people..talking on the phone, or visiting with, or writing letters and so on. To be sure I do love my laptop..but it isn't the be all and end all of my life. I would be fine without it. Right now if I weren't doing this...I'd be baking cookies for my grown up kids. Or I'd be cleaning my apartment. Or reading my "So You Want to Write" book. I think I'm too dependant on the Internet for my learning and finding relationships and my fun. Although...my typing has really improved alot, and, as I'm self-taught on how to get around on the computer, I was able to find a decent job. So I'm not complaining at all. I do love my computer and the internet.

nothing will change . there is another substitute for everything. what was the diff. when net wa not there. everything was accordingly managed. what will happen when there is no male , then female will have female or doggy. when there is no female then male will have male n goat, simple.
