Who do you think are more intelligent, dogs or chimps? Explain or give examples as to why you think one way or the other.

I recently read an interesting article about animal intelligence. Apparently, dogs are better than chimpanzees at distinguishing human signals, even though chimpanzees are generally thought to be more intelligent. This is not particularly counterintuitive, since dogs evolved alongside humans; and natural selesction probably favored those that could understand some human communication. It is also suggestive about different forms of intelligence. Modern education emphasizes things like problem solving and creative thinking, things that a chimpanzee would presumably have an advantage in. If I had to choose which is more intelligent, I would have to go with the chimpanzee. Because the definition of Intelligence is a property of mind that encompasses many related mental abilities, such as the capacities to reason, plan, solve problems, and think abstractly. Which I believe a chimpanzee has more of these abilities and can out think a dog. This is a very good question you have came up with. I have never had to compare a dog and a chimpanzee.

I'm not familiar with the assertion that dogs evolved alongside humans. Could you point out your source? I was also under the impression that language was acquired at the infant stage and learned at latter stages. What role would natural selection play?

I think we think chimps are more intelligent because they are able to express themselves with their arms and hands. If dogs had hands then maybe they would be able to be more expressive and apear more intelligent than?
