If you don't have them where you live then you gotta think I'm crazy. The grocery stores where I live rent out little machines to shampoo/clean carpets. With spring cleaning around the corner I was thinking about taking on this project. I have never used one of these before and I was wondering if they worked well enough to go through this trouble. I have 6 rooms with carpet. Any one have experience with this?

Back when I lived in the UK I bought my own carpet shampooer because it worked out to be cheaper than renting one, or having someone professional t come ut and do it. After the initial expense of buying the unit, it's so much cheaper, the only thing you have to replace is the carpet shampoo. They are fantastic things to use though, I seriously never realized how much dirt was in my carpets until I used one of these. I vacuumed my carpets every 2 days but when I used to carpet cleaner, the water came out filthy black. I was absolutely ASHAMED! Lol. They're definitely worth it, but I just personally feel it might be better to buy one of your own that work just like a vacuum cleaner except they're shampooing and cleaning your carpets instead. Just my two cents.

Nope never have. When I was younger, I thought it would be interesting to do so, but I'm really not sure why. I'm not sure if they still rent those out around here.

I have used them many a time. Here in the Uk you can rent them at certain stores, but I didn't have to lol as I used to be a Manager for a cleaning Firm so we had the Facility to borrow from there. But they are good and I am thinking of buying my own as I do clean my Carpets quite regular.

I haven't had a reason to use one from thegrocery store. I don't know if I'd trust them though if I did use them. I wouldn't know if there was a problem with the machine or not.

I had to rent one before to clean my mom's office. We rented it from HEB. It worked great.I even got a little work out from how much I had to do but it was cheaper than having someone come out and do it so all worked out well. The carpets came out very nice. They were pretty dirty from all the smoke. So I was impressed.

cheaper still to own one and just buy the soap then you can clean when you want and not have to pay rental.

Ye they are pretty good , especially if you have a lot of people traffic or a messy dog etc. If you are hiring it overnight then I suggest you do it quite late so that it gets a proper chance to dry without getting dirty etc. It will breathe new life into your carpet and so its a good idea. The one I used wasnt too loud and did the job quite well. With 6 rooms you may have to run about emptying the water a bit but it will be worth it. Its cheaper than a new carpet! Take your time with it and do it slowly and have a wee cup of tea in between rooms. Take care.

Yes they are easy to use and do a good job. Before you rent one, check on adds to see how much you could buy a machine for. I bought a bissell steam cleaning machine for around $100. Its mine so I can use it whenever I want. It pays for itself rather quickly. The one I have uses a wand and hooks up to the kitchen faucet for water. You can also buy machines that look and work like a carpet sweeper, they also do a good job. I don't know how much they charge to rent the machines. Good luck, cleaning carpet is work.

I have used one before. I thought they were easy to use. I however have purchased my own steam cleaner so that I can steam clean my carper whenever I choose and don't have to run to the store to rent one. But I have never had any problems with them.

My sister bought one a few years ago and I've borrowed that since. The store ones do the job, but the expenses add up, as others have stated. If you plan to use it a few times a year even, it would be cheaper to buy one now than rent it a few times.

Yes I have used them and they work pretty well although now I am older I prefer to have my carpets professionally cleaned twice a year and have my own small one for accidents and it work great, it one of those "Little Green Machines" with a brush in them that scrubbed at the spill.

I have used them, but I do not care for the cleaners. I like my house to smell fresh..To me those commercial carpet cleaners stink.. they remind me of the smell of plastic for some reason. I usually rent the machine and make my own soap using Tide, warm water and a table spoon or two of bleach.. It works really well, and smells really good too! Oh, it does not work so good on touch stains.. We do buy the resolve carpet cleaner and spot cleaner and treat the tough stains with it prior to carpet cleaning.

That was the only place I ever rented them from when I had carpet (hardwood floors now, I love them). I rented from the little grocery store here in town and it always worked great - probably 10 or more times over the years I've rented from them. Funny, went to the same store earlier and a man was returning a cleaner he had rented. I heard him telling the store manager he was surprised it worked so well.

I used these many years ago, but they're a lot of hauling and hard work. I found it much easier and just as cost-effective to have the professionals come in. I would advise getting a comparison price list. Find what it would cost total for the rental, plus your supplies; then the cost exactly of the professionals to do the same amount of carpeting and the cost of buying your own machine. You should come up with the best deal out there. It might take a little time to do the comparisons, but you'll save in the long run.

Yes, I have used one before, they work out ok if you have 1 or 2 rooms to clean, but if I had 6 rooms I would probably invest in a shampooer of my own. You can buy they for around $200. That way you have it to use again next spring or the next time you want to shampoo the rugs.

It's funny...you should bring this up...because I was thinking the same thing..our carpets are getting pretty grundgy too...with the winter salts and dirt etc. I would like to know if renting one of those machines is worth it too..so if you find out let me know...

Oh yes I have used a carpet shampoo from the grocery store, yes they rent them out here in Australia as well. They do work really great, and bring the smell and dirt out of the carpets. You will not be sorry so go and hire one and get it done I found it terrific, and so will you.

I have used the carpet cleaner machines you rent and they do work great. You spray your carpet with cleaner and water and then the machine sucks up the dirty water. I can tell you from experience that your carpets will be a lot cleaner if you do it yourself than if you hire someone. I pay a lot more attention to detail and clean every inch really good. When I hired someone to do it I watched them do it. They didn't move the furniture so they basically did a small part in the middle of the rooms. When I clean I get it all. The cleaning machines are easy to use and well worth the money I think. Good luck.

Hi, I often rent the shampooers from the grocery store and find that they clean better at times than a professional cleaner. I have used both and thought that the job i did was the best and cost less.
