My son is about to turn 2 and he is still in his crib. It's one of those convertible kind so it will change into a toddler bed. What age is the best time to make the change?

moving from crib - when to change from crib to big bed
I was just having these same questions. My daughter is about to turn 3 yrs old and she is still in the crib. She is happy there and really likes it so I am in no hurry really to change her out of it. We are going to move to Florida in the summer and I may start introducing her to a big girl bed after we get moved. :)

He doesn't try to climb out or anything. But I heard some people switch at age 2. How will the kid stay in the bed is my question. I know my son would be running in and out and never go to sleep.

i have the same dilemma with my daughter. LOL I think that putting her in a big bed now, she would take advantage and now i can just put her in bed and she goes right to sleep. if i put her in a big bed, she would be up to potty and all that. LOL

We went with a toddler bed for our daughter when she was two. My mom actually got her a toddler bed for her second birthday. We set it up like a week after her birthday. It was a little tough at first because she knew that she could get out of it, but she loves it now. We took her bed shopping a month or so ago to see if she wanted a twin bed, but she didn't yet. She is three now, so we will probably wait until she is four before getting her a twin bed.

We switched my son from crib to toddler bed when he was about 10 months old. He was already walking and he hated his crib. Every time we would put him to bed he would scream and cry. As soon as we switched him over, put him in hte bed he went right to sleep. Don't get me wrong, he still fusses at bed time, but no where near like he did in his crib. I think the crib - bed transition is really dependant on the baby. Can he get on and off the couch without a problem? Does he enjoy laying in your bed? I think things like that are all cues.

We'll switch from the crib to a twin bed when DS is big enough to climb over the rail. Hopefully we'll catch him BEFORE then! He's grown tall enough to reach door handles, and has figured out how to climb into the bathtub, so it might be pretty soon. He's almost 15 months old.

I put my son in a toddler bed when he was 9 months old. He tried to climb out of his crib so we decided to put him into a toddler bed so he wouldn't get hurt. We never had problems transitioning him b/c he got to pick out his new big boy bedding (The Wiggles) and we also put his Ocean Wonders thing on the bed which made it feel more like his old bed. When he was almost 2 we moved him to a twin bed due to more space. I wouldn't bother with a toddler bed if you have the space for a twin unless your crib converts to one.

I had to move my daughter out early at 12 months because she was climbing out and falling on the floor. We had to do it for safety reasons. If your child is not showing signs of climbing out I would wait a little longer if possible. But Also like someone suggested you could talk to him and ask him if he would like to move to a big boy bed.

I would wait a little longer, unless he can climb out of his bed now and then he could get hurt. He is still little and if he gets up on his own and wanders around he could get in lots of trouble. The crib is one place you don't have to worry about him getting into trouble or getting hurt.

My son was almost three before he went into his own bed, when we converted his cot into a bed. He settled very quickly too.

I would wait until he is really really ready or jumping out and you have no choice. Here's the reason I say this. I was excited to get my child into the toddler bed b/c he was a convertible crip too. He was a little older than 2 when I tried it. He was fine for a month. No problems. Then all of a sudden he got scared b/c the railings weren't there and now has to have his light on all the time and is scared a lot. We put the crib back together but he's still scared a lot. I wish I wouldn't have done this.

I moved my daughter out of her cot because she started to try and climb out of it and it was dangerous for her to do that. If your son isn't doing that I don't think there is any need for him to go into a bed until he is ready for it himself. why not talk to him about it and see what he wants.

I never put my little one into a toddler bed...I thought it was a waste. Before she was 2 I put her in a full sized twin bed with no guards on it. She fell out of bed once or twice and then learned to sleep in the middle of the bed.
