I usually don't get on the computer much on the weekends. I usually like to hang out with my husband and kids so therefore my computer is a weekday thing for me. I just happened to pop on yesterday morning to get the lottery numbers from the previous night, and I had a ton of emails in my inox from ebay. I have recieved fraudulent emails from them before and know the signs of what to look for when you open a email from them. However all these emails were addressed directly to me. I opened a new window and went directly to ebay rather than clicking on the link in the email just to be safe. I went to my ebay account and sure enough someone had hacked into my account and had put over 100 items up for sale. I was freaking out I never thought something like this would happen to me. I started the process of reporting my account as being stolen and started to fill out the form and do everything that I needed to do. Luckily I caught everything in time. All of the auctions were set to end in 24hrs I recieved great help from live ebay service reps. they helped take everything off my account. They credited me the $190 some dollars that were posted due to sellers fees and locked down my account. I am currently in the process of closing my ebay account. I no longer trust the website or its affiliates. I'm even questioning the security of paypal. I never thought this would happen to me I would like to know if this has ever happened to you or someone you know. Did they continue to use their ebay account after the hacking? What happened to them were they able to catch in time?

This is really scary to hear about, especially since eBay is so closely related to PayPal. I have heard of one other person having a problem similar to this, in fact it was someone from this site. I can't remember the details exactly, however I think that they were similar. I can only imagine the mess that something like this could generate had you not caught it early. The really concerning part is that whoever did this obviously has to have some way to be paid for the items that were "sold", so they must have a way to access the PayPal account associated with the eBay account. It only makes sense that they are doing this because of the money, afterall. What does PayPal say about this? Have you contacted them also?

Wow you are so lucky to have caught this in time. eBay will usually be more than helpful when this happens and also they should have given you some pointers to avoid this happening again. You should immeidately change your passwords, and the password for eBay and PayPal should be different too. In general, this should not put you off, rather you can always continue but be vigilant.
