Anger management

Anger - A frustrated man
Singapore

How do you guys and gals deal with anger? What do you do when you feel the volcano erupting out of you? For me, where it is viable, I drop down to the floor and do some push-ups to work off my frustration. It is a win-win situation when you think about it - you feel calmer, and get fitter in the process.:)

For me when I feel some pent up anger building up inside me, I will do one of two things. 1) Go into another room, where I can be alone and listen to some music. It helps to calm me and put me in a better frame of mind. 2) Get a bit physical, channel my anger into something constructive, whether it be, tackling some unfinished jobs or doing some household chores. By the time i've finish what I have done, i've usually forgotten why I was so angry in the first place. Instead of anger, i'll feel pleased with myself because I would have accomplished something, even if it is just cleaning out the toilet ...........lol

Well done, pal. I like your second alternative better though since it is constructive anger management where you channel your anger to something positive. Many times, it is tempting to be destructive - like bashing someone up or something like that, ha!

It is temping to bash something but that leads to sore knuckles, holes to repair and a bigger reason to be angry ....... lol

Ha ha! But I grant you, that's true - though you get tougher bones after that. :P Bashing something releases that energy - that frustration in you. Imagine if someone invents a way to convert this intangible energy called frustration into something that can really be used (literally) ....

I do the same. I do my best cleaning when I'm angry. Depending on why I'm angry, if its something trivial then I deal with it there and then with whomever I am arguing with. If it's a bigger problem, then I need to calm down before I can talk it over and getting away from the person is the first thing I do, whether its cleaning, or going for a long walk.

Music is the medicine for me. Everytime for sleep or stress or anger music always comes to my aid. And not all types of music it is classic music that i listen to everytime i am in need of some relief from excess stress or anger and it always provides me the relief.

Hmmm...I might do that push-ups thing you're mentioning. Gives me extra muscles. In days when I'm really upset, I will clean my house from top to bottom, even the drawers were re-organized. I never experienced feeling that volcano erupting inside of me though. After an hour, I'm back to normal again. I never stayed angry for long. Don't want to have wrinkles yet. "smile"

Just had to contribute to this one... hehehe... I am working on an experiment, wonder how many people would be interested to try it out. When you get angry, raise your head and look UP. Let's see how long you can stay angry in that position.

Good idea! I'll have to remember that next time! Usually I do one of two things, retreat (well I most always do that, as I don't believe much in arguing) but I may go and sit quietly somewhere.. or very often I will tackle a chore I've been putting off, even if it's just the dishes or something.. Then you feel happy you got that jopb done. I think exercise is a great idea too!

This is a good idea - converting that awful bundle of energy towards fighting procrastination. :P

I have been accused of having a short fuse on occasion hun. When I get that wound up and angry I take myself off to a quiet place and let rip. I've *killed* a cushion before now, a few swift punches helped a lot though.

If I get really angry I seem to get calmer. If that makes any sense lol. I'll release some steam by writing..or I'll begin to clean -- even though I clean more and better when I worry than when I get angry lol. But most often I'll write or read a book. Take my mind off it til I can handle what I got angry at, logically.

Sometimes I calm myself with music, sometimes I take my anger out on my household chores. Some days one works better than the other.

Quite often that is what ends up happening. I might start out doing one or the other, but usually end up doing both before it is over.

Try both. Play music and do some cleaning. :P

I may drop down to the floor as well, only to pray instead of do push ups. I really struggle for meekness and have a choleric personality which I must make a concertive effort to overcome, and then, the cleaning is also a great way to release that energy.

Well, since I seldom get angry, I had to think about this one, and I've come to the conclusion: get OLD! When I was young I had a bad temper. I got angry quite often. Maybe I should say I had flaming red hair, so can I blame my hair? Redheads are supposed to have a temper, aren't they? I think it has been many, many years since I've been angry or impatient. I don't think I've purposely done anything to curb it, though I do believe it is a waste of energy. It achieves nothing good, and probably hinders rational thinking, and causes ill will, so it doesn't make sense to get angry. Apart from that, as I said, maybe you just have to get old!

You are lucky if you seldom get angry. And yes, redheads are supposed to have that famous temper... :P

Hey I am not like you, surely I can't just drop down and do push ups every time I get angry. Actually I am a bit lazy :P. But being a pisces its nice, as I can't be angry for long. It just comes like the wind and goes like the storm. All I need to do is to handle myself for those few seconds. And for that I always try to divert my mind to some happy things or other goals that I have to acomplish, or just some other work. I don't have to do it for too long as I calm down instantly. Haha I feel its a good blessing. Any ways Take Care May GOD Bless YOU

That's why it helps you not to get angry easily - since you don't want to do push-ups lol. :P

Greatmanagement. there is a way they say that you can release anger, get a baseball bat and hit it hard releasing your anger on some punching bag. Shout if you want and release all the tention and anger inside you.

I obviously has no good anger management skill, normally I will keep quiet sitting at my place, keep myself calm for few minutes, then I'll find a victim and start to complain about what i am angry about for few hours. If it's about somehting that i can't complain to anyone, i will go back and get a nice sleep.

If you can keep quiet for a few min, that's pretty good management! :P

For me, I usually keep my anger inside. I keep it at bay, until it is just too much, and I just explode. I want to be left alone if I'm angry, and God help those who bother me. If I can't find any peace, then I take a long, long walk. A lot of the time, though, I take my anger out on my house by scrubbing it from top to bottom.
