A little respect for the military uniform..

Give respect to men who really deserved it. - military uniform

I've seen various fashion magazine and some man and woman who wears military uniform as a form of fashion statement. They just wear the uniform as if they are wearing some custome on halloween or a custome party I'm not against fashion or any sort of new trends in our society but what bothers me is that the uniform that supposedly be a sign of a pride to our brave soldier are just being wear without a little respect out of it. I have high regards to all men in uniform because I myself is a navy reservist here in my country and always ready to serve when my duty calls for it. Military men and women sacrifice so much to earn the right -the privilege - to wear their uniform. It is technically illegal for an unauthorized person to wear a military uniform or any recognizable piece of the uniform. The only exception: actors and actresses in a "theatrical setting or movies". I really knew I will raise many eyebrow on this discussion but some of us really don't know how valuable the uniform for the military, police, FBI, CSI or even professional doctor and nurse to see thier uniform wearing in a disgrace manner.

Yes I have seen fashion magazine and models where the military uniform for fashion, this is wrong as they should show more respect for people that fought for our countries. My parents were both in the army forces and they would be applaud if they could see how these people are wearing them for fun when they fought so hard so that we could live in a peaceful world.

I really agree with you kathy. Sometimes individual treat the uniform as a joke and even the business establishent who sell it as a ordinary form of dress. There are individuals who really don't know the value of what military mission in our country that they take it for granted it's main IDENTITY. thanks.

i do agree,we have stores here that sell used military clothes and supplies. i think every one around here has some type of military clothing. i will say my two oldest sons have there own ACU's and did wear them for halloween. the are just like daddy's with names tapes and all. my oldest son loves his cuz they are like daddy's. he wears his the way they are supposed to be wore with boots and all witch alot of people don't. my oldest has to have all army and army camo cuz thats what his daddy does. it makes his dad feel good but there are others that really put the uniform to shame.

Certainly true aretha. One quote that really leaves a mark on my mind during my military training was "WEAR YOUR UNIFORM WITH PRIDE" and for me that means really something. Thanks.

Well thats definitly one way of looking at it but I didnt raise my kids to believe in wars and all of that so I dont say nothing when they decide to where camo or something. I totally agree with you when it comes to the really uniforms but if your talking about the fake ones sold in shopping centers come on whats really so bad about it. I really find no problem with it.

I agree with you. My father and both of my brothers served in the Navy, and I grew up with a strong sense of pride in the Military. In fact, my new job is going to be at a Veteran's Hospital- can you even think of a more deserving patient population to serve? Them Military uniform is a symbol for what the men and women of the Armed Forces have done and will continue to do to serve our country and to keep us safe. This is to be admired and respected. I agree that people outside of the Military should not be allowed to wear the uniforms as a fashion piece or for any other reason. If they want to wear the uniform, they should join the Military and serve the country.

Congratulation for a new noble job in the veterans hospital that was a great place to render service. Some individuals should really learn some good ethical issue concerning wearing military uniforms for it is not a ordinary dress it was IDENTITY to brave man who fought for our country. thanks laurie.

Those who wish to use a military uniform as a fashion statement, should be required to earn that right by fighting for their country. Or, by putting their lives on the line. That goes for anyone wearing any type of law enforcement uniform. I think they have no right to wear it as a fashion, until they have earned it. This is most disrespectful of those who put their lives in harms way on a daily basis.

Here in my country you can really see how military uniform was widely abuse. They are sometimes a dance outfit or a sexy outfit. I really felt for some officers who share the same sentiment with mine for that was part and parcel of thier life that was the very sign of thier identity that is why it was called a uniform. you are certainly correct sigma thanks!!

John Cena - John Cena wearing military cap
O agree with you to a certain extent. I think that people who do wear a recognizable piece of the uniform must respect what it means. Case in point - John Cena, a WWE Wrestler. I've seen him wear a camoflage cap on quite a few occasions - but I know he has a LOT of respect for the military. He's attended some one day training courses with them and he said he has so much more respect for what they go through in order to have the right to wear the uniform. I believe that most people do have respect for the uniform. It's not all about making a fashion statement.

I fully agreed with you on this as I think we were educated and we should know how to respect other's professions as well as respect ourselves. Its truly a shame to wears a uniforms without knowing the actual meanings that uniforms had bring!I had saw lots of peoples wearing all those uniforms every now and then last few year as some kind of fashions but now it seem to be ok in my country as I think it was actually under proper controls.

there was one time here in Mindanao (souther part of the philippines) when noone is allowed to wear military uniforms (anything like fatigues, shirts, etc). i don't know the main reason behind it but i think it's because we were to promote respect to men in uniform. years had passed. but up to now, i rarely see people wearing military uniforms just out of fashion. i myself don't like wearing them...mainly because i am not in the military. but when i see men/women in uniform, i have high respects for them. i don't know why people love wearing such things when it's not really meant for them. maybe it's time for most to practice respect for others.

I also agree with you on that statement. As a Vet, i get disgusted and feel disrespect when i see people where military uniforms or dogtags, that even piss me off more. I was in the marine active duty from 98 to 02. Great topic

i think you are absolutely right.army uniform have its own pride but according to me if you wear army uniform without army's logo then there should not be any problem with that.the main thing in army's uniform is country's logo which is more important.as far as you respect your country's logo everything is fine.

I agree the uniform should not be wore for fashion or any sense there of. The uniform isnt just a uniform for our service members the combat uniform helps keep our service members safe so its part of there protection. My husband puts his uniform on everyday with a since of pride and it really bothers us when non service members or families of those parade around in the uniform, I think if you want to wear it that badly then you should Join the military.

Thank you so much asoldierswife I really knew you can relate with my sentiment because lots of my friends who are in the military share this very sad fact about thier uniform. My point in this discussion to enlighten some members that military uniform is not for fashion wear or for ordinary days dress it is something to be wear by who really deserved it. I really dont want to argue with other opinion but I knew by this discussion they will open thier eyes on how military uniform is highly regarded by those who really have the right to wear it.

You are right. For soldiers, they pay uniform a special meaning. they think this meaning can not be interfered. But for common citizen, they are not informed this special meaning everyday. Sometimes they just think uniform is very interesting and fresh to them, so they are eager to have a test. Different people have different view points. when those shouldn't wear uniform wear uniform, they also show some kind of respect to the uniform. At least they like uniform.

Hi liming! Welcome to myLot! You have a really good point of your view and I really appreciate it. But individuals who wears military uniform in the way they want to test it they should wear it properly not a form of costume in some dance competition or some bar. Thanks liming.

I'm with you on this one Maribel. My father and grandfather were both in the navy and both fought in wars - so to see a uniform denigrated into a fashion statement leaves me a bit cold! lol

I really don't see any point of wearing military uniform as a form of fashion. If they want to wear one so they should join the military and not wear it as a form of a day to day ordinary dress or a piece of dress on a ramp during fashion shows. Thanks feralwoman.

The military uniform should be respected at all cost. However wearing T shirt or a hat that has something to do with the military does not disrepect the military. It is when you see people walking down the street in full fatigues and weird hair cuts, that is disrespect. I was in the military and the reserves. I didn't like it when people made a mockery out of our uniforms.

I don't know how would i react on this.. This makes me guilty, I have this fatigue shorts that i bought 1 month before.. I really love the design and the texture that was why i have no second thought to buy it eventhough it was expensive.. Respect is always there, I do respect military and criminal officers. I don't wear the shorts to insult them or to show that i must be respected also beacuase i gain respect eventhough i wear in briefs.. In this case, the military officers and department must be thankful that many people wants their uniform and made every person who wears it to feel that they are well respected, disciplined and humble. It is not about the uniform but their deeds that each military officer gains respect. Sorry if this not agree on your side.. Im sorry for those who will also raise their eyebrows on this
