Sick Day, Wellness Call Off Day, or Girlfriend Movie Day - What;'s Your Favorite

Don Juan DeMarco - My favorite sick day movie, or the one that I need when I am feeling bad about myself

It's not often that I sit and write such little "it doesn't really matter in the whole scheme of life" questions but I just feel like lightening things up a bit on my end to wind up the weekend. Some days you have to call off sick because you are sick; other days you call off sick because you just need a day off and if you call off to ask for a vacation day you get a lot of crap for it, so it's better to just call of sick; and some days your girlfriend from another job has had to call off sick because she needs a girlfriend day, so you have to call off sick to help her get through whatever it is she is going through. My question is. What is your movie of choice for these days? For many years mine was "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeves. If I was sick, my partner would automatically go to the movie rental store and rent it before she went to work. Then he had his tragedy and I was no longer able to watch it. I tried, but I just couldn't do it. It took awhile for me to find the next PERFECT one and it is now Don Juan DeMarco. I really don't like to be sick; but it does make it easier to feel badly, lie on the couch with big comfy pillows, my dog and my cat, and least we forget a huge box of Puffs with aloe. What is your favorite movie? Is it one that makes you weep with the romance of it? It is one that makes you so frightened you jump if a noise happens in another room. Or, is it one that cracks you up and makes you want to laugh, dance, and just shake it up?~Donna ps: Thanks to everyone that has responded to my very serious questions dealing with religion. I am most impressed with some of the answers I have gotten. I may not respond to all of the comments on my discussions; but I promise they will all be rated and a best of discussion will be chosen on all~Donna

My choice would not be a movie at all. It would be the complete series of CSI! Party! I love CSI and my daughters purchased me the first 3 years and I have never gotten to watch them. I know..I have seen them each thursday on TV but it just is not the same thing. I would just love to have a whole weekend with nothing but a good fire, good good, my husband and the entire 3 seasons of CSI. That be my perfect weekend. Am I off my rocker??

One of my all time favorites is Braveheart. I love Mel Gibson as an actor. I don't necessarily approve of the things he's been up to recently, but as an actor he has enormous talent and Braveheart was one of the best. It makes me smile, it makes me weep, and it makes me laugh right out loud. Not many movies have that effect on me. Another of my favorites for when I'm under the weather is Meet The Fockers. I roared with laughter all the way through that, and I'm determined that should I ever have another child, I want one just like the baby in Meet The Fockers LOL.

I work from home, so if I fancy a day off I give myself permission. If I wanted to watch a movie it would have to be something akin to the horror genre! Not the blood and guts variety, although sometimes that can be good if one needs a good scare, but more the psychological scary movie. I like "Silence of the Lambs". I'm looking forward to Hannibal Rising as i've heard great reviews on that one! lol

Well I have a few I will pop in when I'm in those days where I just have to lay on the couch all day. Usually though they are series, so that way I can go from one to the other without having to think much. The Mummy, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. Ones like that I can put in and drift off if need be. I wake up and know exactly where I am and don't have to worry.

My favourite is girlfriend Movie day where we all got together and phoned in to work and decided to stay at one of our friends place we dare not go out just incase someone seen us at the normal movies so we woud do it this way and watch some of our favourite movies, oh what fun we used to have, it was better than going to work on those particular days. We would watch about 4 different kinds of movies so that we all got a choice, so we had laughter, and crying and a mixture of emotion by the time we were finished for the day we were more tired than going to work but we all enjoyed it a lot those were the days.

I need some days off. I really should take some, but it's such a hassle. I work nights, solo, and the store is understaffed as is, so it's nigh impossible to call in sick. Also, I usually end up having to cover someone else, so it's just not worth it. But, my bored-and-nothing-better-to-do movie of choice is Boondock Saints. It's a great movie to veg out to.

You now when I am sick and bed ridden then i generally don't like dozing off as that makes me feel a bit more sick and helpless. Instead i would always prefer to sit outside seeing the enviroment and relaxing or else going out for small walks or something like that. But when nothing of this sort is possible and i have tostay at home then i always go for watching cartoons or some great movies. I love to watch cartoons for they are sometimes quite inspiring and funny as well. And for the movies, when I am sick I always go for comedies, romance or motivating ones. It really lifts my mood and helps me stay calm or else i just sink to the depths. Without these things i would not be able to regain my health easily.

When i worked for the Department of Public Assistance, we used to call those days "mental health" days and we actually got two of them per year. I like sort of chick flicks like Annie Hall, Barcelona and The Return of the Secaucas Seven. Right now I'd sort of like to see "Little Miss Sunshine" but I keep forgetting to rent it.

You know when I am sick and doing the couch and Kleenex thing there are 2 movies that I love, one is Steel Magnolias and the other is Terms of Endearment. Both movies still make me cry even after the 100th viewing and I find the dialog in both snappy and entertaining. More important I gain strength from the women in those movies, they remind me that when life is at its worse, women have the gift to rise above it and overcome. Life does go on.

I watch Labyrinth - I need a dose of dreams and magic when I'm down. When I was waiting for leg surgery I used to watch it and tell myself that I would use Dance Magic from the movie to get out of the wheel chair. Amazingly, that's what I did. Two years in a wheel chair and I started belly dance lessons while still in surgical bandages to the hips - the teacher let me sit and work of torso and arm isolations. 4 weeks after the Second surgery, with skin grafts, back in bandages I took part in my first recital. The doctor was amazed at how fast my legs were healing - he kept asking me what I was doing - I told him it was Dance Magic. My teach said so too.

I love "Back to the Future", I can watch all of those a million times and never be bord. When I am not feeling well they give me a slight boost, and I really enjoy watching them anytime.

There are really times that it's nice to call in sick for work especially if the work gets boring.. but i would only do it if there's not much to do at work which of course would make a whole day's work without any challenge. Such situation would just make me feel tired after the hours that its better to be on couch watching the Star wars saga, James Bond movies, or those heart softening ones like Sweet November, City of Angels, Notting Hill. Watching animations with kids are also a great way to lighten up.
