What is Wrong With Having Faith or Beliefs?

Okay, so I've read several post today with people bashing faith and belief? But what is wrong with having faith in a great power? What is wrong with beliefs in an after life? If people fear hell and wish to go to heaven they are more likely to do good. They are also more likely to do bad. I don't think their is a balance. For everyone person religion saves another person dies in the name of religion. BUT, if the fear of hell keeps that man from raping a child, then what's wrong with it? What is wrong with the belief if you do bad things, then bad things will happen to you? I love religion. I love it as a whole and as single religions. Sometimes it is beautiful and sometimes it is extremely ugly. I don't mind being a "nut" from a "nutree" as long as the "sun" that shines on me is good. One person asked "where a is a good forest fire when you need one?" When s/he was referring to the nut tree. You bring the matches, I'll pray for rain... We never will know what happens. But I have faith that the rain will come and "you" believe the fire will destroy the trees.

Well I've not really been in here much today so I'm sure I've missed the threads/posts your talking about (this is the first thread I've come to since just loggin in now) but I'm sure I'll come across them...Whats wrong with having faith or beliefs? Absolutely NOTHING as far as I'm concerned...the only issue I personally have is when EVERYONES faith and/or beliefs isnt treated with respect...which is common unfortunately and sadly I doubt that will ever change....I dont expect ppl to agree wiht my path for example but I DO expect to be given the same respect as anyone else would....I never try to covert ppl and would never dare to, that sort of behaviour IMO is b.s..flip of the coin though, I expect ppl to realize that I am just fine on the road I'm on so I wish to have that respected...see what I'm saying....There isnt anything wrong with having beliefs in a higher power or having faith in something...its when those beliefs are abused and misused and when ppl belittle and mistreat others walking a different road it all goes sour...

That was beautifully well put! I feel the same way when it comes to what I believe. I don't try to convert others but give respect and try to learn. It just makes me a little sad when people who don't have beliefs or faith bash those that do. I think it wrong to insult others for what they believe in. But it always works both ways... You're right, I don't think any of this will ever change.

I think that there is absolutely nothing wrong with having faith, with believing. Nothing at all. I think alot of people are ignorant of the facts and choose to think what they want, which, hey, if thats what they want to do, so be it. I generally avoid discussions like that because people are going to think what they want to.. I guess thats life. Go on believing, I think you are doing it the right way.

There's nothing wrong at all if a person has faith or belief in what he wants. All of us have. But sometimes we differ. We have the freedom to believe in what we want. Others should not meddle with us and we do not also meddle with them in their beliefs. The problem is when we talk of our belief and they are not in conformity, they attack. We don't interfer with their beliefs, so why should they interfer with us? We are freedom loving people. Mind your own business, so they say.
