Over here in the UK, we have a 8 year old boy weighing in at 14 stone!!! social services are now making the decision whether this is a form of child abuse or not. If it is found to be that it is he will then go into care! What are your thoughts on this story? would letting a child get so big be a form of child abuse? do you think he should go into care?

I'm not sure what the conversion is for stones to pounds, but looking at that picture I'd say he's clearly over-weight to the point it's a health issue. I don't think that means he should be removed from his parents care though. Abuse is hurting your child, starving your child, failing to keep your child protected from the elements etc. Feeding your child, even if you have poor judgment and feed him too much; just isn't "abuse". Unless a parent was force-feeding the child food, I can't see how anyone can think it's abuse or neglect. If she's trying to help him learn better eating habits now, she's obviously learned something & is trying to remedy the situation. Aren't we as parents all learning as we go? Not one of my 3 children came with an instruction manual. I think there are way too many children truly being abused by parents or guardians for this child who's obviously been well provided for (perhaps a little too well provided for) to be placed in the system.
