How long do you wait before you mark the best response?

So I've only been on myLot for four days. Some of the discussions I started on my first day are still getting responses. (Admittedly, they were rather silent for a while!) Other discussions have had a few responses, and have stalled. I've noticed some other people have marked their best responses almost immediately after the first response has been posted (which to me doesn't invite any further discussion, even if I don't feel that the chosen post is anywhere near being an adequate answer!), while others linger on for weeks, or never get marked, regardless of the activity. Is it important to mark a best response? How long is a reasonable timeframe before marking what you feel is the best response?

I usually wait till I get an adequate number of responses, atleast 40+ Sometimes I mark based on how long ago I started the discussions. Responses just stop coming so you have to mark a best response and resolve the discussion. It helps to mark a best response because it increases earnings to the one who gets a best response. Also it a way of showing you appreciate that person's efforts and thought they put into responding to your discussion. It's entirely up to you when you want to choose a best response. A lot of users don't realize they haven't marked best responses yet. The funny thing is, I mark a best response on a very old topic (started a month ago or even earlier) and I choose the best one out of a few. The moment I mark a best response the discussion is sort of bumped up and I get a stream of responses to it!Lol It has happened all the time and I was wondering maybe I should mark a best response to get more attention..hehe

it totally depends on what kinda solution is a person looking for... its not about competing i guess. rather about finding a solution that touches your heart and/or mind.... you might get better responses.. but its just about how you feel about the response you saw... i have couple of best responses at an immediate response... at other times i have been first to response ... and there have been 20 more responses and still i got the best response... i guess its all about satisfaction and not a time frame
