It's today. We didn't get much notice from the school either, so I am sorry I wasn't able to post this sooner. Although it is called 'World Book Day', perhaps it is something that is celebrated more in the UK and Ireland? They also have a selection of books which are printed each year, and book shops accept special tokens so that the children may 'purchase' one of the special offer books (for free).
Is this not celebrated in the US? We left before my children had started school, so I'm not too familiar with current customs.

Thank you and so glad it is today as I now know what to do for our meeting today! I was going to go outside, but it is raining now, so I will go by the library and get some books they may like and work on the books badge today.
The schools around here (some)do a week of dressing up as characters and there menu has things like Green Eggs And Ham, and other Dr Seuss related items, but that is about Dr. Seuss, not books in general. I will put it on the calender.
It would have been nice to have known earlier as we could have set it up for the girl scouts to read to the preschool or Kindergarten.
Thank you again!
