well now that my husband is gone nights i find it hard to sleep, for almost a decade i have always had him right beside me in bed and now its a weird trying ot adjust to him gone at night and sleeping during the day, so what do you do when you cant sleep? last night i tossed and turned forever i kept getting up to check on the kids thinking that one of they may need me or atleast i was hoping so i had something to do, then i tried cleaning a bit but i wasnt really in the mood so i hit the pc but nothing to exciting was happening finally i turned on the tv and last time i saw the clock was 2 so i guess shortly after that i passed out but there has to be a better way to get to sleep than that whole ordeal. i guess ill just have to wait it out and eventually mentally and physically ill be able to adjust to sleeping alone 4 out of the 7 days a week. but what do you do when you cant sleep ill take any ideas in the meantime. thanks

this works for me. close ur eyes, breathe slowly and deeply and imagine you're falling into a black never-ending hole. don't imagine ur falling head-first though. ur falling but it's not terrifying, it's just continuing.........

hey, I too am a woman alone, except my husband is gone all week. he leaves on tuesday and most weeks i don't see him until sunday, if he's lucky he'll get off on saturday. me and our 6 year old have all week without him and just a cell phone for any contact. i live like a single mother 99% of the time, and i just have to keep telling myself that the goal is to get him off the road and home, but until we win the lottery or my book gets released there isn't much chance of that happening. last night i was up all night i took a nap about 8:00am because i have been trying to make money on the web to help out. here's the worst sleeping aids have no effect on me.But i went through what you are going through for years, and i realized that just like a baby i was getting my days and nights mixed up, so what i do when i am not sleeping or hitting that bought of insommnia i make my self stay up for a day or two with out going to bed and eventualy i will sleep when i am suppose to.

i am sorry to hear about you not getting to bed early with no reason at all. hehe. you're too used to have your husband beside you and now, things have changed and you haven't adjusted to the new situation yet. but you'll soon do. i am a fast sleeper. when i want to sleep or feel like sleeping, i can easily sleep in any position there is. i can sleep sitting down, lying down... i can even sleep when inside public utility vehicles with no problems at all. and at night, i can easily put myself to bed. however, there are rare cases when i can't sleep especially when i miss my boyfriend so much. we're on a long distance relationship. and missing him hurts a lot. all i do is log in to mylot and keep my brain busy and later, my eyes are sleepy and i can soon go to bed.

Do you like to read? Like are yoou big on reading books? If not, try reading, since you will not get too much into it just read for the sake of reading and hopefully you'll feel sleepy with what you are doing. In my opinion, the more you do something that you enjoy, the longer you'll be awake, so do the opposite, do something you hate for the sake of doing it then you'll get bored and tired. Hope this works for you..

when i can't sleep i tend to go downstairs and watch the news on sky i put the compuer on and sit and play poker as well as coming onto my lot and posting here. if there are no poker games to play and no topics on here to chat on i put a game in and sit and play that until i get tired. i am used to being awake late at night with my step son when he didn't sleep so it's nothing new to me, we used to sit and watch wrestling which i had recorded on sky plus.

If i cannot sleep, i will try to drink a hot milk, and have a massage on your face, then i will fall asleep after 10 minutes or so, it seems that it works for many people.

the technique which works for me is the first post. The deep breaths with eyes closed, with a blank mind or mind concentrated on one specific thing only

i'm used to these sleepless nights myself just like u i used to spend most of the time on varied jobs. but i found a better way i started takin up some stressful jobs(like physical exercises, etc) which make me tired in the day so automatically i started to get sleep. and now i hav a perfect timing, i dont even need an alarm to wake me in the morning.

Well it must be hard for you. You are used to have your husband beside you at nights so you are definitely in the adjustment period. I suggest you tire yourself the whole day so at the end of the day all you want to do is to get some sleep. If it doesn't work, you can try and read boring books until your eyes hurt or you can listen to soft, instrumental musics. This works for me. I don't suggest sleeping pills.

Sleep w/kids, Hot bath, no caffeine or sugar after 3pm, stay on the internet LOL, Run circles in the garage till you wear yourself out. Maybe talk to him on the phone one last time before you do go to sleep and say your good nights. Get a dog/cat to sleep with? Maybe you get a job those same nights? I am one of those people who work 3 out of 7 nights and my husband has same problem and I tell him about me trying to sleep during the day and then switching back to sleeping nights. I really have to watch my sugar/caffeine intake to be able to sleep. Then there is the light factor. My cat helps me sleep though. Do Not Disturb Sign on Front Door and the phone being turned off. Lots of Luck To You.

Well.. this should work.Have a hot bath with a few drops of euclaptus oil and epsom salt.Relax on the bed and deep breathe slowly in.Feel the cool air get into ur nostrils.Feel it going right to ur lungs.Pause for a moment.Breathe out.Feel the warm air from right within coming out of ur nostrils.Repeat as many times as u wish but concentrate on ur breathing. After a few moments doing this u will feel relaxed n go to sleep. If this does not work then after this excercise try reading some material of ur liking.u will definately get sleep.

If your daily routine is of fixed nature and includes a little physical strain, little mentle work to do and you are not facing any kind of anxiety in the life, you should not find this problem of not getting "sleep." Still on some night if you face this problem, A mathematical or logical books reading make you mentally strained and you go to sleep. Or any subject you don't like to read you should try to read the same you would go to sleep. In any case taking some medicine for this is not a good thing because this takes you to an addiction. If you belive in chanting, this too helps you in getting asleep. All the best.

when i can't sleep, i find myself looking out the back patio door at the stars and thinking of my late husband. sometimes i sit on the couch and have a cup of tea in the dark or try to catch up on my bills. it depends on the mood. alot of times i find myself talking to god and thanking him for how well my children turned out in spite of their rough bringing up. i pray for my sick brother and mother and for all the people who need praying for. like i said, it depends on my mood when i can't sleep.

poor soul, you must have too much stuff in your brain, had you been thinking too much, or worrying too much. Maybe you should try not to think. Meditation should do you good if you want to sleep well.

hi! it must have been so hard knowing you were used to the situation that your husband sleeps you and you're still adjusting to the situation you're in. Why don't you try spraying on one of your pillows with your husbands perfume or his shirt perhaps. It may seem that he's with you. I did it when my mom left to work. Condition your mind...try drinking on hot milk or chocolate it may sound so old school but hey it really works! Probably read on something that bores you you'll definitely pass out. wishing you well always!
