Hi! So, the algae eater was the culprit? Wow! Thanks for letting me know. I have blood parrots and didn't really want to find a pleco attached to one of them LOL so I looked for less aggressive plecos. That's one thing the stores don't tell you, that the regular common plecos get huge and get aggressive toward your fish. Peaceful choices include bristlenose plecos and royal farlowellas. Farlowellas are nifty looking little kritters! I have heard that snails can take over your whole aquarium by reproducing in droves. I don't know if that's really true, but I've heard people tell me to stay away from snails in my aquarium. I've been tempted to try just one, though, just to help keep the tank cleaner. If I were pondering this choice, I would choose the tortoise just because it sounds like a lot of fun to have one. Good luck with your decision! :-)

A tortise would require its own habitat. Do you have the money to buy what it needs like food, cage, bedding, lights, heaters. If not then go with the snail.

For a personal choice, I'd rather have the tortoise. Actually, we have one, too. Everyone in the family loves it. It is always peaceful and is a grest pet which is entirely different from the rest. It gives us an air of a welcome variety.
