According to an article I read, a young lady from Florida suffered from the hiccups for five weeks straight, can you even imagine?? I think the longest I've had the hiccups is maybe for two minutes straight and even that was pretty annoying! Imagine having them when you're trying to eat/sleep?? You can read more about this hiccup story at the link below: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070301/ap_on_fe_st/endless_hiccups Do you get the hiccups often? How long do they usually last when you get them? Do you find that they only come at certain times of the day or during certain events? When?

Yeah, I saw this article too and I thought that was pretty crazy and sad at the same time. I can never imagine having hiccups for more than half an hour. I think half an hour is the max for me. Yet it so on my nerves. It's so weird that that person got hiccups for so long. I mean, hasn't anyone tried to scare her? (scaring the person with hiccups help cure it sometimes) or hasn't she held her breath while drinking water? I only get hiccups when there's something up internally in my stomach (don't know what exactly) but I rarely get hiccups that often. I'd say probably less than five times a year. Heck, I don't remember the last time I got hiccups!

Mine don't last long thankfully- I take long slow deep breaths and relax till they go away- but my mother in law knew a man that had them for many years- he became very depressed and couldn't work, she said it was very difficult for him to just live day to day

That would be terrible. I couldn't imagine having to deal with that. I get the hiccups on occassion, maybe 2 times a week. They ususally only last for about 5 minutes at a time though. For me they usually only show up after I eat something. I was always told that if you inhale too much, that casues them. Now I don't know if that is true or not. I've just alwasy heard that.
