What happened with Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman?

I always wondered why they broke up. Tom Cruise's quote back around that time was something along the lines of, "Nicole knows what she did." Since they're children together were adopted, and there were rumors after the two of them split up about her having a miscarriage, I wondered at the time if she turned up pregnant and Tom (knowing himself to be sterile) knew that he wasn't the father and therefore that she had cheated on him.
That theory is blown away by the fact of Suri Cruise, but it does kind of fit in with some of the weird theories that sprouted in the time after Suri's birth and before the Vanity Fair pictorial. Stuff like there was no baby, or there was something wrong with her.
Maybe he figured out some other way to get Katie pregnant (someone else's sperm) to show himself to be a man capable of fathering a child? Maybe he actually is Suri's father and if Nicole was pregnant before then maybe he was the father of that child too.
I don't know why I find this question fascinating, but for some reason I do. What do you guys think?

I think the only people who really know what went wrong is the 2 of them but since that time both of them seem to have gotten on with their lives. Nicole has married Keith Urban and Tom is reportedly going to marry Katie in Italy in early November. I wish them both couples every happiness in their new lives.
As my darling late Grandmother used to say "in a dispute in a marriage, there are three sides. His, hers and what actually happened". :)
