Birthday parties

Today I'm putting together my son's birthday party to suprise him when he gets home from his grandmother's house. I'm making a train cake, put together goody bags for all the kids, blowing up balloons, everything.
Anyone else do big parties for their kids? Got a funny story to share about a children's party? Come on parents, share some memories. :)

Happy Birthday to your son! How old did he turn? So sorry about his sick friends.
We do a pretty big party for our kids. I like to hand make everything. Last year I made a monkey cake that turned out pretty cute. It was an animal themed party (he was turning three). I made these balloons - http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel194144&cat249&navLevel=2&site=kids and I came up with many more animals than were shown. So far we have done just family because our family is pretty huge but next year I'll probaly start inviting his friends as well.
