I was browsing ebay for some new books and found out that the word for romance novels (?) is Chick Lit? How long have I been out of the loop now? Is that what people refer to them as or is the term smut books still used? Chick Lit- Books written by Jane Green, Jennifer Weiner, Janet Evanovich, etc. I find that amusing. Does anyone know of a great website that you can buy books from that doesnt charge high shipping and prices are low? I use ebay and half.com mostly.. wondering if there is anything cheaper out there.

i know of a couple websites were you can swap books. i mostly use my local library. i check out as many books as i please, and i get lots of reading done, all for free. chick lit is a genre of literature geared toward young women of this generation, yes they can be smutty at times also. they are fun to read, nothing too intense, or thought provoking. they are simply books you read by the pool or simply for fun.

It has been a while since romance novels are being called Chic Lit, personally I don't mind. Good websites for cheap books are also Amazon.com. Jane green is a great author so is Sophia Kinsella!

I never knew that word as well...so I guess we're on the same page here...I guess ebay is the best buy you can get and shipping fedex would be cheaper.

I do sometimes find some books that are listed for under a dollar on amazon.com since their shipping charge is 3.49 I usually pay under 4 dollars a book, if I get ones that are under 50 cents. I don't know if you saw the post on here about www.paperbackswap.com This site is good, if you are willing to swap books and I wondered what the catch was, but I listed 14 books [only need to list 9 to get credit to request 3 books] Since of all the books I listed only one has been chosen so far I have paid only 1.73 in mailing out this book of mine that someone requested, in exchange for that I have gotten 4 books from this site. So 4 for 1.73 seems good to me. I did however see some books in a series I was reading, because of this I did purchase credits from the site, which amounts to about 2.75 per book. So That also works better than paying the 3.89 I paid from ordering one of the books from www.amazon.com used books. Books being called Chick Lit I think is fairly new. I don't remember seeing this term for that long yet. I don't think it smut books, LOL it is most of the books in the various romance genres, Since now romance has romance mystery/ romance historical/ romance paranormal/ romance contemporary LOL It is all still romance but now at least people and find thy type of romance they like best easier I suppose.

Thanks for the paperback link, I think I'm going to look into it because I have tons of books to get rid of but I want to sell or get more in place of them.

You're asking if you're out of the loop. I was under the impression that we were supposed to avoid this kind of language because it's sexist. Shrug.

I don't know of any places online but your local FreeCycle chapter could be a good source for free used books or a local second-hand bookstore could be a good source for cheap paperbacks. My old library would have bins by the entrance where you could buy books for a quarter. Pickings were sparse but every once in a while there would be a gem or two.

LMAO Chick Lit is great. I have never heard that but I look for non-fiction. I wish I knew of a bookseller with cheap shipping. It is a little over $2.50 to ship a 3 pound book Media Mail as well as Bound Print Matter. Parcel post is $6 & $7.20 for Priority. Its expensive to ship books.
