Do you like to watch reality television? I think that it is not as much reality as they want you to think. I believe that most of it is still scripted. What do you think?

I do enjoy some reality TV, but I have my limits. For instance, I can't bring myself to watch Fear Factor. I am quite convinced that some of it is scripted. If you have ever watched The Surreal Life and seen Rob or Verne on one of their tirades, you would agree. I take it as it is meant to be taken, just some entertainment.

I agree with you. I believe they are asked to act a little more rude and crude to make ratings better. So in reality (pardon the pun) it is not true reality.

I dont think they are scripted, i think they are well edited. I used to watch some but now its become sick and distubring. When reality TV shows first appeared they were full on normal everday people. Now it has got to the point were they are putting mentally umbalanced people on them to get people to be shocked and watch more. It has just become a like freek show.

I don't know about it being scipted or not but I don't think it is as good as it use to be. I remember when big brother first started it was really good. Now it just seems like the same old thing every season. After the firstt few shows you already know who is going to win. The ones were the public votes is just a popularity contest and has nothing to do with talent.

I watch some of the shows and I don't think they have scrpts but I do think they are guided to do things to improve ratings. The worse people act the more people tune in to watch. We all live a life of reality so noone would watch if it was just everyday life. The key to any of the shows is to make money by building ratings and to do so they most do outrages things to get the viewers to tune in.

I don't think they are so much scripted as manipulated and edited to create the most sensation that will ensure large viewing figures! Don't get me wrong I don't think that the people in these dhows can be made to act a certain way but if they are not strong willed this will show in their reactions to contrived situations! Having said that there are some that I do like to watch - just to try and figure out the psychology of the contestants!

Yeah. I like to try to figure out what the people are thinking or where they are going with their strategies.

I belive soem of them are scripted to a point but mmostly it is great editing and maybe even shooting some scenes with the host seperate then adding it in. Example would be a contestant or participant does or says soemthing adn the camera catches it the the host is edited in afterwwards to make it seem like they wer ethe ones who casued it. I do nto care cuse i enjoy watching them

I'm almost positive these reality shows have some scripted parts added. For example, I heard that on the Real World show, not this season but I belive it was the last season, there was a fight outside a bar and the producers asked them to do the scene like five different times in order to add more drama. I think the shows are unscripted but only to a certain extent.

That's what I am talking about. Not so much scripted but made to do certains things over again to make more drama for what they show on the television.

Ok, having worked in the movie biz I can tell you that the people you see in "reality" shows have all auditioned for their roles. They are actors and are given scenarios, and shots are blocked, but they make up their own lines. (I auditioned for a marriage counselling show, where my "husband" wanted to start a family but I didn't really want to be a mom... We were just randomly paired up, and had never met before that day.)
